Just been on a short run, not pushing it or anything and by the time I get home there's steam pouring out the engine bay and its over heated...

The steam seems to be originating from the side near the battery and there appears to have been a large spray of brown water around the lower part of this area. See pic -

Any ideas of what might be wrong...?

When I had this it was my water pump that had gone - someone more technical will be able to give you alternatives I'm sure.

I have added this pic of where the water appear to be coming from... Its a black cylinder thing with a couple of hoses coming out the end nearest the passenger...

Thats your vacum tank dude , the steam wont be coming from there but you do have a water hose just above it that goes into the IACV unit .

I'm thinking that something else is making the system overheat and causing steam in this part of the engine... could be the rad cap or thermostat at a guess...

Here's a pic of my rad cap -

Looks kinda worn out to me... any opinions from those in the know...?

That looks like some thing from world War I.

Looks like a full system flush, new forlife and a new rad cap are needed regardless of any other problems.

When caps fail the pressure is released into the overflow reservoir and the expansion water can cover a wide area.

I found what appears to be the leak and it dont look good (see attachement)

If you look directly through the silver pipework just above the oil level check stick thing you can see this pin prick of a hole in the engine...

Whats the verdict ? :banghead:
