Yeah i'd have to agree. He just doesn't seem to be overtaking those other cars that say are doing 70mph.

Wow that's a really nice car. It got up to 180 so quick!

Wonder what would happen if you got caught doing 201 mph on the motorway? 6 months prison sentence and a 8 year driving ban?

Bobbeh
19-12-04, 16:00
Yeah, you'd deffo be made an example of. Massive fine, probably 6 months jail, and banned for a couple of years.

AGREED! Complete BS!

It is often hard to tell top speed on vids, but that traffic really gave that one away. If that car was doing 200mph, everything else was doing 140!

Mate got caught doing 153 on a Honda Blackbird in Scotland (A75 way back to boat).

They also had him at 109 and only did him for that. He got 1 year ban (doesn't apply in NI :p ) and a £800-£900 fine.

Worst thing was, it was my fault as my bike broke down in Penrith and we were hurring to catch the boat :twak:

I have also gotta agree as well I have flashed past traffic in mine at night and lorries are usually the best ways of telling as they generally tend to stick to between 50-56mph. I had an indicated 165 on mine and it was overeading by at least 10 mph and lorries appeared and dissapeared behind me a lot faster than that. Also watch the central reservation and clock how fast that seems to be passing by. It would look a lot faster than that at 200 mph.

Of course these are all theoretical speeds that we wouldn't do on a public road. :innocent:

To be fair they never show a view out of the window at anything about 140-150mph, and the only cars passed in the adjacent lane do zip by pretty rapidly. At best it's a badly calibrated speedo conversion I'd say, but it's certainly speeds way beyond a speedo still reading in kph.

Most speedos are out by at least 10% though have to say ya only saw the road at the point where he was well below 200mph but again I have done 185 (speedo leptons) which was obviously someway less than that in reallity and even at 150 the trucks (that are normally limited to somewhere under 60) were not slow enough....nice try though he he (nice car too)

If im correct it looks like the part that turns into the a1m, this is a very fast moving road. i use it every other week to drive to Scunthorpe. its suprising how fast people drive in that stretch.

Oh yeah of course unless the sound was dubbed at the start and he is infact at top revs in 4th

Bobbeh
24-12-04, 11:43
So you think someone went to all that time and effort, dubbing the gear shifts, speeding down the A1 for nothing? When he starts filiming and you see the cars flying by hes doing well over 100 to start. It just doesnt appear as quick cos the motorway is 4 lanes wide there. Im sure if it was dual carridgway it would look a lot quicker.

dangerous brain
24-12-04, 12:25
OK well watch the video again then. When he passes that lorry which will be doing a max of 60mph the guy pans from the road to the speedo, by the time he gets to the speedo its reading 150 and the engine note doesn't begin to rise until just after the last glimpse of truck shadow goes, it took him about 3.5 seconds to get from the last view of the trucks shadow to that reading so if we estimate conservatively that he was doing 140-145 when you last saw the shadow of the truck that would be pretty close to what speed was indicated as you saw him pass that truck.
Now you tell me if that looks like that truck goes backwards at 90 mph?? It doesn't even look like its going backwards at 70 mph. Now look at the lamposts as he goes past them. At 120 mph (which equates to 53 1/3 metres per second) to pass 1 a second they would have to be spaced out around 53 metres each. He passes approx 6 in 4 seconds. Now I'm no real judge but those posts are far from being 50 metres apart, 30 maybe, which would drop his speed to around 45 metres per second which equates to 101.25 mph very roughly speaking of course cos its measured by eye.

I've noticed in the past that when you look through a video camera or binoculars while travelling down the road at 50odd mph, you barely seem to be moving. Why doesn't someone record a video at say 100mph on the motorway and we can review it and see if it 'looks' like 100mph.

Based on that we'd have a good idea of whether he's doing 200mph.

dude
31-12-04, 10:14
In my 'police video' shot from a T5 that was doing 147 mph it lookd like we are barely going faster than the lorries and vans on the inside lane !!! we tried to use that as defence in court (didnt work) :read: if you took the speed off the bottom it looked like 4 bikes driving quite normally , he is in top going around 7000rpm so that should be way over 160 !!!.
BTW with the manual Diff in mine UNDER READS by around 10mph and thats at 187

I have seen the video and read all the doubting threads on this video.

If you find the stretch of the A1 it was filmed on the Junction from Alconbury Weston to Sawtry B1043 (seen on video and confirmed this by little chef on righthandside). This stretch of road is 3 miles long from slip road to slip road. They complete that section in just over 1 minute.

So times by 60 for an mph and you get 180mph average speed, so I would say yes they are stark raving mad and did achieve 200mph at some point.

Very true. Supra's are pretty much uncontrollable over about 130mph. I guess that is why they were limited to 112mph. V. dodgy aero IMO.

Syed, I'm afraid I have to use this smiley... :conf:

Even at an indicated 185MPH on a private runway the car felt very stable, I've done 140-150 on numerous occasions and certainly wouldn't call it uncontrollable. This is the first time I've seen a Supra's aero being called dodgy whilest being compared to a skyline too ;)

:yeahthat:

Mine felt planted when racing a train in France at 160mph+ and i've been waaaaay over that on a fair few occasions.

I can't see how the aerodynamics of a Skyline could possibly be better than a Supras? Both being stock of course. We all know Supras can be made to exert huge downforce when modified (properly).

it's got to be km... I drive that road all the time and the average speed of most of the traffic is quite high prob just under a tonne but there's no way you could get up to 200 with traffic!

just watch the top secret run on the same road and it's obviously not a similar speed. That's why you never see the road when he's doing anywhere near top speed...

True, fastest ive ever been in a car was an indicated just over 180 but that speedo was 15mph out according to my satnav, that was in my supra and felt very stable.

Fastest ive ever been on a bike is and indicated 190 (ZX10r with nos)and that also felt very stable:)

I still think that vid is real, if it was kph he would be in something like 3rd gear, you can clearly see from the vid he is in top gear at 7500rpm, probs a real 180ish imo:)

cant help thinking something is not quite right with the vid.

i have done 190 leptons in my 300zx and thats much more aerodynamic than a 34 gtr and the wind noise at 150+ is massive so at 200 mph i doubt you would be able to hear the engine never mind them talking like there doing 30mph??

I don't know whether it's 200MPH or not, I never did watch the video and can't view it at work, but people always say, "the lines would look more blurred", or "it would sound louder" etc. but camera lenses and microphones record things differently than human eyes or ears.

You won't get anywhere near 650BHP using just Nismo parts.

Even if you went to the Omori factory the most you could drive away with is 450PS with the R1 package.
