View Full Version : Going NOS
Mornin' campers ...
I'm going down the nitrous route. Following mods ..
Full CW Decat, RSR, Walbro, TRL VFCD, Boost & Oil Pressure Gauge. CW Restrictor Ring. RPS Street Sport Clutch (got to fit it yet), HKS BOV etc. Car runs a maximum 1.25Bar on stock ceramics and never spikes beyond that.
Is there any other mods which are advisable before doing the nitrous upgrade ? Just in the same way that a Walbro is advisable.
What I don't want to happen is go down the NOS route - enjoy it for a couple of months then have to upgrade something because the component couldn't take the extra stress.
Eg -my stock clutch is just about fcuked about 2months on going BPU - hence the RPS.
Would appriecate you're thoughts peeps!
Cheers!
Just make sure you get a wet shot.
Personally I would use a direct port wet system with progressive controller...
Other than that you should be ok :)
Definitely getting the controller! Don't think the manifold would like 75shot dumped straight into it in one go! :)
Can someone describe what NOS is like in their TT ? In terms of time & acceleration.
I never thought I'd have nitrous - always said to myself "Nooo! You can kill yourself quite easily enough as it is."
But was talking to CJ today and he's bang on the money when he said that .. you get used to the power. Used to doing 0..Silly-mph speed. And you aspire to have more power.
Well, perhaps not everyone shares that sentiment but I do anyway. Hell, I even gave up smoking for my car! I worked it out - that what I spent on fags was worth a tank of Optimax! Been 6months now.
May the NOS be with me!
Depends on howmuh HP jets you want to use? Id buy a kit with a progrssive controller, and get something to play with ignition timing too, all IMO.
Id only reccomend direct port, I know alot of guys just running 1.3 bar on big singles, and alot of nitrous injection, and the cars preform insanely. But not for daily driver. ;)
All depends on whether your injectors will be able to supply the extra fuel required, but you could just get away with upping the rail pressure with an FSE/Aermotive regualtor, etc.
But id do it proper.
For road car, get a wet kit.
Get an APexi SAFC, ITC, and some bigger 550cc injectors(inj size depends on howmuch NOS jets you run)or 650cc hi imp. ones
Youll need ..
Fuel controller-SAFC
Injctors-550cc(resistor pack) or 650cc hi impedance
Timing controller-ITC
FPR-FSE
and AFR gauge.-AEM UGEO
Or just get an E manage, and tune it to run very consrvative timing all the way up on high loads, so that you can leave yourself headroom for running the NOS, and not detting, and saving yourself changing maps etc, vrytime you want to hit the NOS.
you always hav to make comprimises when running NOS, but majority will be ok with a progessive controller.
Saying all that it all depends on howmuch NOS you want to run?? :)
Sorry for the lengthy reply.
Lol ! Usman thanks for the reply. I was thinking starting on a 50bhp shot. Maybe run a 75 shot maximum.
Doing the NOS mod is scarey business .. as there is sooo many options to choose from. It's not as simple as the Decat as it's basically: Kit A & Kit B is needed ... = decatted Supra.
I shant be dragging the car - just for daily road use.

Me too! This is going to be my late XMas prezzie to myself. Aren't Credit Cards great ?!? :D
I got the NA with NOS, and then installed the progressive, running a 100 jet...
I'm rather chuffed with the results, apart from constantly having to fill the bottle *grin*
nos the stuff dreams are made of you need to see supra babes gas kit its nice and works well its a b spoke n2o kit wet fogger system 75 shot on a 2 stage progresive controller the bottle is polished with a billet handle i fitted it my self:flame Dev
Gavin - would be interested to hear about the performance increase on your car ?
Seen Clair's nos kit - when we were at a Reading meet which shaf organised ... you remember those cars that were there ? :D
Never got a chance to ask her tho - about the performance.
I've not actually had a chance to check it out with the progressive yet, since I emptied it when it was running on a switch...
It is the ZEX wet kit, it was running 75, and that was very nice....
It will be nice and full the next time I am out and about...
Gav
nice kck in the pants good kit to work with as well
also has a purge valve
I don't think you quite need to go to the lengths Usmann would :) I've looked into nitrous before, and I came to the conclusion that it wasn't for me. The trouble is it's bangs-per-buck cheap (which is normally what I go for) but in order to have a foolproof system the cost suddenly doubles.
I'd go for:
Direct port 6*25 wet shots
Progressive controller to keep the hit down, and definitely with a rev windowing system.
Big bottle with a bottle heater
Suddenly it's about £1500 instead of £500 and we still aren't retarding any timing...
However, people on here are having fun with single fogger wet shots up to 100bhp, right in the throttle body, with no ignition timing, progressive controller, or rev windowing.
Things you may want to note about nitrous:
Not compatible with RLTC.
Not compatible with wasted spark ignition.
Not compatible with fuel cut.
Not compatible with injector cut based rev limiters.
Should not be used low down the rev range.
Your turbo housings are already flowing more exhaust gas than they can really cope with once you have a restrictor ring in - you will be adding 100bhp's worth of extra gas to that flow. This can (as some people have found out) make the nitrous hit very weak as the engine simply can't flow the exhaust gas out fast enough.
I'm not wanting to sound too much of a killjoy, but I think you should be aware of those things so you can make a decision with as many facts as possible to hand :)

PS "Not compatible" means "it stands a good chance of blowing the engine" :D

I'm going this route also very soon!
NX CO2 N-Ter Cooler Kit
NX Nitrous Kit (75 shot)
RPS Max Clutch
Ian - to clarify.
Do you mean that it would be possible for the boost to go > 1.25Bar .. triggering fuel cut Regardless of the restrictor ring ?
Which would lead to massive lean problem ... which lead to detontation - which would lead to a big bang!
I've been doing abit of reading on the web ... the system that seems to very popular is the wet highpower system ... wizard of nos (http://www.noswizard.com).
I think Karlos / Cuba on this board are running HP systems. Would be good to get their POV.
Boost may well go up as the exhaust has got 100bhp more in it. Your wastegate is already marginal so it won't bypass all that, if any at all. If your restrictor ring won't let that extra exhaust through then you won't get the power hit off the nitrous... So it's going to happen :)
If you hit fuel cut, the injectors stop fuelling (same as RLTC). This means, with a wet system, you'll have boosted air, nitrous, and enough fuel for the nitrous shot ONLY going in. That gives a VERY lean mix and pretty much instanto detonation in the cylinders.

I may have missed it, but what about a FMIC or uprated (CW) SMIC?? Things are gonna get hot :p
While we are talking about NOS,
Does anybody have any clues where to get a ZEX kit filled in the hampshire area...
I tried The Phirm, but they didn't have the right fitting thread to fill the canister..

Not that hot with liquid oxygen in the intake steram :) It does actually reduce the intake charge temps.

Surely in general with BPU +/- NOS you should be thinking about an uprated IC?
you do not need 6 gas injectros ie direct port
you need a fooger wet gas system
direct port gives you a true 50 or 75 shot which will spray straight on the back of the valves and in results giving you a bigger hit and more grief to the pistons you just need a foger kit it will not be a true 50 shot it will be less...........
Paul - is that what you meant when you said that it get's halved ?
the pistons will get 25 then 40 then 30 it all depends on were it gets sucked and how much the chamber sucks in if you use a 2 stage then you use 100hp jets to run 50 bhp........
ugh am nitrously challenged.. my head hurts with all this
I'll have a chat with you when we meet up. Haha! :)

It all depends very much on the car in terms of what size jets produce what extra horsepower, and the type of system used.
A direct port system with controller is the most scientific way of doing it - this way you have a small jet in each intake runner for each cylinder. As Ian says, 25 jets would be good as 6x25 = 150bhp total jets. Whether this nets this extra power is another question, 25bhp jets is just a size really. You'd need a dyno to prove conclusively what difference was being made, with turbo'd cars you usually get a good jump in torque with NOS. A progressive controller just means that at x RPM the NOS jets will be injecting x percent of their total flow capability.... the benefit being you can inject a small amount at low RPM's and more and more as you increase in RPM's.
A wet fogger system means it's down to the airflow characteristics of the intake plenum as to how much NOS gets to each cylinder, so as a result you get varying amounts in each cylinder. Not as good, but admittedly less expensive.
Cheers,
Brian.
