I have often thought the same question :innocent:

did anyone see Topgear a few weeks ago when they filled a car (think it was a jag) and drove to Scotland and back on one tank.

I was impressed how far he was able to go with no fuel on the clock. The car had a few built in warning features like miss-fire and engine warning lights before the tank was totally empty.

A guy at work ran his tank dry last week in a Diesel Astra and it cost him over £500 for the garage to feed the fuel into the engine again :(

Yeah IIRC it was the new Audi A8. Twin Turbo V8 diesel!!! He said he never went over 1200 rpm.

The middle bar of the E is as low as it'll go (you had loads left Gav :D ) as I ran it out of fuel once early on, pioneering a major difference between the J-spec and the UK spec - the size of the frickin' fuel tank

I've seen the bottom of my fuel tank enough times and it's clean. The filter on the pump picks up any grot that it might be knocking about. Not that I'm saying it's a good idea to run it dry all the time, just don't think you'll need a flush of the system if you do
