I dont have a Supra so I am hoping this gets moved to the project section anyway :D

 

I have owned my Toyota Aristo for around two years and have decided to make it alittle more ecnomical by converting it into a LPG. I am trying to downsize my existing fleet size so I can unlock some of the money stuck in the cars. Having looked at LPG installers locally to me in Leeds, Manchester, sheffield etc I settled with a guy whos work I had seen on an LPG forum. He has worked on GS/LS430 cars and the work he has done is 100%, looks clean and comes higly recomended.

Dont let the simplistic website put you off, he knows his stuff! V-Power costs me somethings 1.40+ a litre to fill up. Its generally 98 ron and LPG is 108 RON to 115 RON.

 

The Toyota Aristo comes with the same running gear / engine has the supra twin turbo. I have decided on having the kit to be based around 450HP and currently its in stock form. I cant wait to go BPU!

 

Here the specfication of the stuff hes installing

 

2x Bigas vaporizers (these can support 220HP each) OR

Each of the above vaporizers will be wired to 3 LPG injectors each.

6x HANA A Injectors, these can support from 60HP to 75HP on each cylinder.

KING ECU with AEB firmware.

8MM gas flow pipe from the back to the front of the car (normally 3mm, or 6mm is installed)

Electronic flash lube injected to each cylinder.

88L LPG tank, that will fill up around 70L.

 

He will ovbiously seal the spare wheel area, where he will "bash the panels" out alittle to make the larger tank fit.

LPG TANK SIZE

 

I have an 88L tank which can be filled upto 70L.

My tank is a single hole and was unable to keep up the gas demand when the car was under WOT.

Its single size because of the capacity of the tank. You could install a 4 hole tank but the spare wheel whell can only fit a 65L with a fill of around 50L.

 

The Flux capacitor and the extra lengths of gas pipe ensure the supply needed by the two bigas reductors can be met when you

decide to pound it and the 2nd turbo comes on.

 

How does it drive

 

I have compared the car on petrol and LPG and it drives very good on LPG. Its not low on power at all and actually feels like it has alittle more umph to it.

 

When does it switch over

 

Once the temp reaches 40c, which is pretty quick it automatically shifts to gas. About 2 / 3 minutes or upto 1 mile of driving.

 

Would I recomend the installer?

 

Yes defo, Hes over 140 miles from me but I will chose him again. I am already thinking about converting an IS200 I have.

He knows what he is doing, takes his time and does it right.

Interesting. I'm (kind of) thinking about buying a Landcruiser Amazon....with the 4.7L V8. Lovely smooth comfortable motor but LPG is a must for any sort of sensible economy.

 

Can you tell me what sort of mpg you get with petrol and also with LPG under similar driving conditions?

Well, I used to put £40 in the car and do around 135 to 150 miles a week. The norm for the Aristo is 20MPG and lower depending on how you drive it.

 

I had a full tank of LPG, around 70L and so far I have managed to do 200 miles in it. Thats 150 miles "around" national speed limit :D and the rest locally.

It still has fuel in the tank, the gauge is alittle irratic and needs to settle down, I think around 70>100 miles is still in the tank.

 

Assuming it does take the full 70L and at 20MPG / 4.5*70 gives me around 300 miles to a tank.

and at 65p a Litre it costs 50£ to fill up.

 

Them days of poor single point LPG kits have long gone, now its multi point injection, injector technology has moved on, now have proper ECUS to map the cars

I dont feel the car down on power, drives well.

I floor it and it goes balistic like on petrol.

 

I am pretty sure its doing the same MPG, if not pretty dam close.

The LPG conversions was a small operation on the side so when the powerboat team came to a close, I was offered a job doing the LPG conversions. I did it for a while, but jumped back on the powerboats with Honda when the opportunity presented itself.

I think what your reffering to lack of lubrication of the valves / seat recession.

Flash lube injected into the head should prevent that :)

 

By valve seat recession do you mean wear on the valve seats? Why is this a problem with LPG, higher temperatures or something else? There's no lube in petrol so I can't see why you need it for LPG.

just wanted to clear the MPG stuff up.. so here it comes.

 

My tank is 88L and - a 20% fill up I should be able to fill up around 70L.

 

Today I decided to fill the tank after doing 275 miles and it cost me 44.48£

LPG price was 0.69 and i managed to put 63.63L before the pump started to click off.

 

MPG average is 19.39, covering 275 miles using 14.18 gallons of fuel.

 

So I may have an average range of 300 Miles out of LPG.

 

I have done around 195 miles on the motorway and the rest is local.

 

I am sure my old GS430 came with a 70L tank, assuming the Aristo has the same tank size and V=power/ premium fuel

70*1.30 =91£

70*1.40=98£
