Offset question

I have had a little search but I'd like a specific answer and I don't want to read every post ;) Right in a few months time I'm going to get some new wheels, I think I'm going to go with XXR 521's.

18 x 8.5 fronts

18 x 9.5 rears or 18 x 10 rears

Which offsets would be best. I know the original offset is 50 but I just can't work it out, it's far to complicated for my simple brain.

I have them and mine are ET25 all round in 8.5 front and 10 rear. You will need the arches rolled though

Hmm I may go for different wheels if they don't fit well without modification. Really I need to find out the offset of my current wheels as they're 18x8.5 fronts and 18x10 rears and the fit nicely.

Right with an offset of 35 all round the fronts will stick out an extra 15mm and the rears 20mm than standard wheels. Would this require any modification?

Really I should just go measure the offset on my wheels, hopefully it won't be raining later when I get a chance.

Must of done something wrong it's now saying 21.4mm for both, does that sound about right?

Well the way i understand offsets is

If the stock offset is 50 and you change to 35 then the wheel will stick out 15mm further, makes no difference

whether its on the back or the front, if the numbers are the same then the difference will be the same

Well that's the simplest way I've heard it explained. Thanks

For example, the fronts are

8 with 50 offset and you now fit 8.5 with 35 offset so the maths are

15mm for the offset differance and half of 0.5" (12.7mm) for the wider rim which is 6.35mm which added

together = 21.35 if we are being properly accurate

The rear is the same with the offset still being 15mm and the wheel is wider by 0.5" (12.7mm) so

half the 0.5" (6.35mm) and add to the 15 of the offset which = 21.35mm

My figures are if you fit the same width rim and just change the offset, obviously if you are fitting wider rims then you have to add that figure into the equation :)

Yeah, well my car already has wider rims on, already got 8.5 on the front and 10 rears, just not sure on the offset. Think I'll go with et35 :)

Ignore what it has now and just work from stock sizes as you have done then you can't really go wrong :)
