HID replacement

I've done a quick search and got half my question answered! I'm going to replace all my lights with HID's and want to get the correct bulbs. Am I right in thinking it's the following bulb type for the dipped and main beam?

Dipped - HB3

Main - HB3

Full - HB?

What is the correct type for the full beam?

Main beam (full)

Dip

Fog

That's it mate, no more

H3 is the fog, and the main and dipped are either hb3 or hb4 , almost identicle just slight difference in the fixing at the back

I have HB3 and H3 in my euro glass headlights

I seem to remember the headlight lenses having the bulb types in them

Personally would not change full beams at all or fogs to HID lights for following reasons:

Full - Useless if flashing (ooer) to other cars for any reason, also time to heat up etc

Fogs - Unless you mod the backing plate and make it completely waterproof you will get condensation in your lights.

Thanks mate, think you might have figured out why mine keep fogging up!

Fulls are alright because of the inrush current I have HID fulls and they are fine for flashing.

The fogs though I will change as mine steam up all the time

It tells you on the front of the headlight lenses what bulbs the unit takes :)

Says HB3 and HB4 in relevant places on the front lens.

Im not sure if Halfrauds do extreme brilliance in H3 for the fog.

Whatever you do, dont go for Toyota optifit bulbs, I use them because they were cheap but they may aswell be called optish*t. Cant see anything with them.

I ordered 2xHB3 and 1xH3 to replace my current HID's. According to the lightbulb thread, it says that the HB4 wont fit so to use HB3..

Information kindly from Nic:

The correct bulbs for the J-spec plastic headlights (early and late model) are:

Low = 9006J

High = 9005J

The J variant of the bulbs are a different fit to the standard 9006/HB4 and 9005/HB3 bulbs. The 9005/HB3 bulbs will fit in place of the 9005J, but the 9006/HB4 bulb will not fit in the low beam (the diameter of the body of the bulb is too big). As an alternative you can use a 9005/HB3 bulbs in the low beam as well (note you will need to trim a rib on the connection with the harness so that they will fit, very easy to do), ie

Low = 9005HB3

High = 9005/HB3

Just going to change my full beam and main beam to HID's and going to leave my fog lights the way they are

I run 6k hids on my dips and 8k hids on my fogs to give that blue hue. I have siliconed the backs of the lights now with clear aquarium silicone, this has secured them plus I don't get any fogging. The mains are 100w blue halogens. In day time at the right angle the main headlights look blue! ;)
