magnetic oil drain bolts (link)

i bought one of these and it was cheap, didnt expect much for the price but the magnet is nice and strong and the thread is perfect so not like the cheap rubbish you usually see.

just make sure its the right size mate , M12 x 1.25

some red ones are M14 x 1.5

Careful you don't over tighten it, there are lots of different grades of aluminium

ive just hand tightened mine for now, its just in so i dont loose it lol.

my sheds in a bit of a mess at the moment with all engine parts everywhere

he will more than likely have more for sale when these have gone

Stock one is definitely not magnetic, just tested one, and it fell on the floor instead of sticking to the workshop wall had to get a magnet on a stick to retrieve the damned thing.

How magnetic is this thing btw? Will probably be next to useless if its as powerful as a fridge magnet i would have thought

I've always thought magnetic drain plugs more appropriate in gearboxes, than engine sumps, unless the two are combined in one sump. I suppose if you find lumps of magnetic material on the engine sump plug you can start budgeting for a big spend

its very magnetic, i put mine by something metal and it ripped it out of my hand i didnt think it would be that strong lol

it was a pain in the arse to put it in the hole

Never thought of it like this...very good point. Now i need to find the size of the gearbox drain plug - always good to be cautious.

Sounds like you put it in the wrong hole strong magnetism and the right hole, the key to pleasure lol

The really anal might say such a strong (Boron?) magnet may impose enough pull on rotating parts as to sap some engine power

hmm, hopefully the magnetic field wont stretch too far to affect performance of the engine...but then again, im N/A so i probably wont notice the difference lol

I've got one of these fitted. Seems spot on. I used a OEM sump plug washer though as oppose to the one supplied with the bolt.

i also bought one of these but it had GREDDY on it, think £4 posted, nice little item
