Head gasket replacement cost?

Can anyone give me a ballpark estimate on how much it would/should cost to replace a blown head gasket on a UKDM Supra? The aren't really many specialist tuning garages in north Wales I don't think so my options are probably quite limited but the are a few "normal" garages that are very skilled mechanically so could probably do it.

Be VERY aware head gaskets usually blow for a reason, and if was overheating and the head is warped it's almost certainly scrap, as not only the head to block face warps, the whole head goes banana shaped in side view, meanining the cams are now expected to operate in journals that are no longer in line. It may also have gone soft if overheated, and needs hardness testing. Head gasket changes are not cheap, you need to be 100% sure it will fix things properly. I would be mid way, price wise on the above prices, assuming I can find time to do it.

This is quite popular at the moment

Trepanning was a quite popular thing to do to heads at one time, too, and I recommend this product about as much.

To check the head you need a good long engineer's straight edge, and a hardness tester. Straight edge about £150, hardness tester from £400 to £4000. I would get someone with the right gear to do this. Taking a TT head off on the driveway is not for the feint hearted.

If you can get the head to a machine shop you could get them to pop it on

a milling machine table and run a dti clock or verdict clock along its length and

width.

This would only take minutes to do and you'd probably get it done for a tenner

This would tell you very accurately if the head is warped, i think 0.1 mm or 0.0039" is Toyotas

guide figure for max warp
