Don't suppose anyone has successfully installed a new stereo and actually got the standard automatic aerial to work...? I have installed my Sony which works fine except the aerial. From what I have been able to interpret from the wiring diagram it should be as easy as connecting the +12 aerial trigger from the stereo to the red/black wire from the aerial relay... but this is not working. There are another 2 wires from the relay which are part of the original stereo loom (can't remember the colours off hand) but I'm not sure if these two need +12 or ground... any ideas...anyone.... ?

Cheers

Rob

Ok, had my dash apart again... lost count how many times I've had it dismantled in the last month... The 2 wires on the original stereo connector now not connected to anything are the Green/Orange and the Pink/Blue. Looking at a wiring chart that blue may be refered to as lilac but it looks blue to me. Now I believe thats its the non-connection of one of these wires thats preventing the aerial from functioning  there must be a techy out there that can throw some light on this one...?

Are you using the standard Autoleads connector that everyone uses? I think it's something like 17-4.

I've had two different sony radios in my supra and both have operated the aerial correctly.

James.

Unfortunately not, I was not aware these existed until too late... Ive done a manual wiring job as I wanted to use my own speaker wire / cables etc...

If anyones got a wiring diagram for one of these converters it would help me to trace which wires need to go where....

If anyone has the same problem, its the Pink/Blue wire that also needs to be connected to the stereos aerial output along with the black and red wire...

Got there in the end...

Digging up an old thread again ... sorry! :D

I want to put a switch in so I can raise AND lower the aerial when I want. So far I have tried a switch on the aerial remote wire from my autoleads harness (blue), and all that does is send the aerial up when I flick the switch ... but it doesn't come back down again until I turn the car (or stereo) off.

I have also tried putting a switch in the black/red wire on the back of the 'antenna relay' unit, but the same thing happens there. The switch will send the aerial up ... but it won't bring it back down again!

Does anyone know the wire/wires that I need to put a switch in for me to have full control of raising AND lowering the aerial when I want?

Cheers, James :friday:

I did the same - blue with white (i think) put a switch in - works no probs. The wire i put the switch into - is the power lead for the relay unit. - I f ya want I'll take a look later on today.

Yep, I'm the same as Hecks, put a switch in the blue auto antenna control wire. Placed the switch in the armrest compartment and it goes up and down with no problems at all.

Ahhh ... Cool! Hold on .. I'll just pop out and have a look. So you just put the switch in the one wire in the back of the relay unit, and it goes up AND down?

I'll go and have a look now and see what's there ... I'll try to get a piccy too :innocent:

Ahh, LOL. Well does the pic below ring any bells (just took it)? It shows the wires coming out of the back of the Antenna Relay box - is this one of the wires that you guys spliced into?

I have a blue/white wire on the autoleads adapter .. but that says AMP REMOTE on it.

It's an amp remote type cable you are after, the aerial normally works off of the same cable. I didn't tap into any wires near to the aerial control box, but near the rear of the stereo on the autoleads adaptor. Find where your blue/white cable from the rear of the stereo goes to and then it tap into that.

Interesting... different to mine... Anyway - the wire I spliced in to was a Blue/White wire from the auto leads thingy - I had 2 Blue/white wire coming out of the same pin - one was for an amp remote - the other went into the toyota loom - if looking from the top - trace the blue/white wire (2nd from left hand side) Mine connects to a pink wire which then goes into the relay box. I put the switch inline with the Blue/White wire.

Silly question but... what type of switch are you using?

Ahah ... Nailed it ... cheers guys!

It was the blue/white wire on the autoleads harness. It just threw me a bit as it says AMP REMOTE on it. Didn't think it was working at first, but it seems to take a few seconds for the aerial to react once you hit the switch

I'm just using a very ikkle rocker switch .... time to get the Dremmel out and mount it!

Thanks again for the help, top stuff!

Cheers, J :)

Remember if you are using amps, to cut into that wire AFTER you have the amp feed!! Or you will not only turn your aerial off, but your amps too!

Good info here :) I had a new head unit installed and lost the control over the aerial from the stock set-up i.e. playing CD's you don't have the aerial up.

I'll get a switch installed.

so cant you make the aerial auto like it was before. i changed my head unit eg:up for radio --down for c/ds .mine comes up when i switch on but dont go down when i put a c/d in only when i turn the unit off. is the only answer to put a switch in btw i used an iso lead .

I undid the connection in the boot, never listen to radio, however my supra has a roof ariel at the top of the window at the back that i've never seen on any other supra's so I still get radio?
