I believe it's legal - adjusting the readings isn't dodgy if you are simply converting to miles from km but selling the car with the intention to defraud is. So yes you can do it if it's adjustment to make it read correctly or to correct a fault (like the one on 307's where the clock reads wrong from the factory) but obviously it's not on to get carried away to make the car have less miles on the clock :)

 

You normally get a certificate with the conversion that lists reasons and the previous breakdown of miles I believe.

 

The Office of Fair Trading currently has a request lodged with the government to stop people being able to advertise this service.
