Started working out the sealed box volume for a Infinity Reference 1030w 10" sub and I'm now a little confused :conf:
The diameter of the sub is 10" (254.0mm) so I'd guess going on past sub boxes i would expect the size to be around 25" cubed
(thats 25"high x 25"deep x 25"wide) approximately.
In the box i find a 'technical date' sheet!
Great, this should confirm the box size but according to the data the sealed box volume (including driver displacement) should be 0.72 ft cubed (21.24 liters)
 ?????? ..... but thats around 9"sq and smaller than the sub diameter.
way too small?
Any ideas.
Thanks,
Ed

Most speaker manufacturers spec sheets will include the displacement of the driver in their recommended enclosure size. So all you need to do, is build one to that size INTERNALLY.
Take the internal measurements HxWxD (in your example 25x25x25= 15625) then divide that number by 1728, (the number of cubic inches in a cubic foot. So your example would have worked out to 9.04 cu.ft!!!
H" x W" x D" = Y". - Y" / 1728 = X' cu.
If you have a sloping rear section, mentally cut off the angle and work out the AVERAGE of that section, then add it back on to one of the other figures.
e.g. A box with a sloped rear. Take the angled sectional depth, measures 1" at the top, and 6" at the bottom. 1"+6" / 2 = 3" Add the 3" to the original Depth figure.
Does that make sense?

:stupid: wish I had concentrated more in maths at school.
thanks for your formula Matt  think I understand it ;)
I need an INTERNAL size of 0.75 cubic foot.
thats 21.24 liters.
(cm) I intend to make my box 37cm x 37cm x 15cm deep.
thats 37 x 37 x 15 = 20.54 liters (+1 liter for sub pod = 21.5lt)
or
(inch's) 15" x 14" x 6" deep
thats 15 x 14 x 6 = 1176 / 1728 is 0.73 cubic foot (+0.02 cubic foot for sub pod = 0.75 cubic foot)
is that all correct? :conf:

thanks for you help matt.
Appreciate it mate
Bassbox pro will do this, it produces a 3d design that you can build, these can be almost any shape, that's what I used. It even has the speakers and amps built in so you just choose what you have any the programme does the rest... It's excellent. You can even pick the frequency you want and the software matches the box dimensions to your hardware etc to achieve this. You can build ported, bandboxes etc.
If you don't want to buy it... Try DC+ :)

Cheers SKI.
Sounds great, but I can't find it on download.com
Any links? ;) :D
Check out linearteam...
They do a speaker box program for free...
I will try and dig out the URL when I get home..

Thanks
Long way to go but the hard bit is done.
I'll take some more pics this weekend. The pods are done and sanded smooth. Just need painting.
The pods are bolted and sealed onto the box (to make them air tight) and the blanking panel fits over the pods and locates onto the box lid. This also covers all the wires, cd changer and amp.
All components are removable so I can access the space saver wheel with minium effort.
Here are the plans:
