Ok so I've had my supra around 7 months now and hit my first problem :(

Was driving the car round the other day trying to get the power down gently (without spinning the rears up)

And noticed steam coming from the passenger side bonnet seam. The expansion tank was boiling! The top hose was red hot where as the lower radiator hose was freezing. So it's eithe the water pump or the thermostat. Funny thing is that the temperature needle on dash was reading smack bang in the centre as always!?

So I may be looking at a possible air lock or faulty sensor aswell.

Happy days :(

I would replace both the thermostat and radiator cap anyway just for good practice and to rule them out.

If you do 2 things at the same time, surely you can't rule out one or the other?

Do the rad cap, then if it persists, check the stat. In my professional opinion, if the car isn't actually overheating, my money's on the cap.

Ok so I've sorted the Supra out - 1st thing i did was remove the rad cap - n it fell apart! All the little plastic center pieces fell into the top of the radiator ( had to go fishing for them)

Easy fix.
