View Full Version : First and Second year gifts
Ok,
Having seen the responses from the tax disc vote perhaps there is a better way to sort the yearly membership gifts.
One suggestion is that we issue a voucher which is money off club merchandise (clothing/pens/mugs etc more as it progresses)
Any other ideas? I'll put the best and most feasible into a vote then a majority decision can decide it...
I think the voucher idea is a splendid one. :D

I would rather you kept the money and gave me a sticker to put on my car. Then when I drive round I can see people in the same club.
(And mug em !)

(And mug em !) Well we can still give the sticker out as the first year gift I suppose, but for subsequent years it's proving difficult to find something that most people would like, but which wont bust the bank but also wont be tacky and shite - hence the voucher idea came up so you could chose what you wanted from a quality range and just make up the difference in cash if you wanted something other than a sticker/pen etc.
also finding something that people don't already have in some form...
So possible stickers and cards first year still and then something else second year and beyond...
And in case you were wondering you will get your first year stuff but we still don't have the new cards made up...

Well vouchers would work - you cant please 'em all so dont try. These people are modders so you are never going to give them exactly what they want (coz they often dont know until they see someone else do it lol !).
Yep vouchers for the old and bold.
I just want stickers :)
A GTR or Nismo keyring would be nice ;) :innocent:
:stupid:
:p :D
er is it just me. or does the idea of effectively getting us to pay £10 and then gifting a proportion of this back via a voucher seem pointless?
I'd much rather see an annual event of some description arranged (either free or reduced cost etc), for example the christmas do, or something along the lines of the BBQ we had down in Southampton (sure we could do this on a bigger scale with free food and drink). So what if people say they can't make it and don't get anything for their tenner, its just for the info / running of the site afaic, so anything above this is a bonus.....
We've kinda been over the event thing.. and it's not fair on some people based on location. Every time we try and arrage a big meet then people far away kick off (and quite rightly so) so it's a toughy.
I know what you're saing about the running of the site. maybe we should do away with it altogether and just continue with cards/stickers...
But keep the thoughts/ideas coming...

I think the voucher idea and I also like the idea of a BBQ but during a major supra event like JAE. That way anyone who is serious about the cars and this club wil already be there, pluss you get to meet more members that way.
What do you think?

Dont try to be too fair. I know what running a club is like there will always be exceptions. In the main the rules hould be read prior to joining if there are going to be "complainers" due to exceptional circumstances.
I agree with scooter. £10 is nothing for a year.
If you can use that towards a function that 90% can attend then great.
Personally I dont think any of us NEED something from that £10 appart from friendly faces, the forum and a sticker.
We are paying for your organisational time.
I think the voucher idea would be the best way to go, that way pepole can chose what they want.
To put money in a "pot" or something is a good one but as peps have said it isn't far for those who can't make it to events and you will get members that are less then a year old dipping in. - This is for a year or more members.
a metallic keyring would me nice, im sure if you got loads of those in, they would cost peanuts..... failing that, just keep the money. £10 a year is not much at all really :)

If you offer up funds you are going to be as equally criticised by people who find the gift idea as unfair as the event idea.
Ultimately many people came here to meet other Supra owners.
They know what 'Bling' they want (and dont want).
They dont need gifts IMHO, they want events and to be part of a social scene - aswell as the tech advice online.
Give em keyrings ? They already have the one they like - they are car people. It would simply be a waste.
If you must have a gift it should show the club identity, Ask people what they think of different types of stickers (Yes you can colour code the stickers to prove their lengthy involvement in the club if you must)
And you cannot please all people, trying will just put YOU out.
You should not be thanking us, it should be the other way round.
And we are back to why you should keep the £10 in the first place.
How about one of these Shaf ;)

I can do you a very good price on them ;)
thats right, i could do with one of those. can the powers that be get me one of these please :D
cheers

I know the mods are working hard with ideas but, have to agree with Scooter. Keep the stickers for the 1st year and then use the funds for other things....Like the club merchandise etc... as there are R&D costs for these items, one time charges etc...
Do we really need a 2nd year freebie ?

I've never worked this hard to convince someone NOT to give their money away before lol !
To be honest, Im not really bothered if I get a 'free gift' or not! I mean, a sticker, a keyring etc... I'm not going to feel 'robbed' if I dont get one.
£10 is not really alot of money these days is it! :)
EDIT.....
I've just noticed my expiry date!!!! :conf: :twak:
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
This is all good guys, keep it coming!!
Personally (for once I'm allowed an opinion!) I think the club money is best invested in the hosting and, as pete says, setting up merchandise costs ie the artwork etc...
at the end of the day, if you guys don't want a second year gift then great!!
What I'll do is see if general patterns form in this thread and work something out from that.
I agree that you can't keep everyone happy which is why I'm so keen on polls, that way the makority wins and no-one can argue!!
(expiry date- don't worry, i know who you all are :D once new account is fully up and running we'll be chasing you all up ;) )

As much as it pains me to say, I agree 100% with Whitelightning.
I don't mind £10 a year (or 2p a day).
I have certainly had more than that back with 'free' advice and the laughs and other information the site has given me.
Yes a sticker is great, make sure all members get them, but after that invest the money in the site.
I work in promotions, PR etc and know the costs involved in producing 'goodies' that most people don't want or don't need.
Keep it and make this site even better.
If members want Supra.net stuff there is always the club merchandise.

Don't waste the time and effort on gifts just put the money back into the site.
I'd rather see a fantastic display at next years events than a piece of cheap merchandise gathering dust in a box somewhere - buy some flags, some printed banners, a club marquee with a bar and sleeping bags, a lawnmower....

i've got another 6 weeks until my membership expires........ can i have some furry dice as a gift.
seriously tho, whats the point of me having a supra sticker on my mr2 :twak:
put the money towards improving the site, that way everyone will benefit...... better server etc. although i already think it's spot on at the moment :)

we've already got them...you may have noticed at JAE ;)
flags yes indeed, good idea especially to mark out the club area!

Bigger ones then :)

Height is always going to get the attention of the punters at something like the JAE where most stands are no higher than the cars on them - a couple of flag poles could be cool.
And Mr Prawn seems willing to donate things for cost so all is good

I`m in agreement. Why bother with gifts? The majority of people will probably bin it anyway. I shouldn`t bother, put the money towards running costs. My S800 Club membership costs £20 i think and my GTti membership is £25, so at a tenner no one should be expecting free gifts.
What about posting up a list of 'goddies' in which people can make a choice via reply?
(1) club logo stickers
(2) Supra / club logo Mug
(3) Supra / club logo key ring
etc.
Then create a final deadline for replies in which you'll have a definite number of each 'gift' to send out. Then everyone will get what they want.
I think the best idea is to actually get something back with 'our' club logo on it. This then advertises the club and makes us all feel like a member of something.
:)
Bottom line is i expect nothing in return for my £10, just the use of the site.
I say that any excess is used for any club related purpose the mod's deem fit (my preference is for events or for the production of the mugs etc mentioned below)
Then any other items ie mugs calendars etc can be sold to us at cost + postage, or maybe cost + small markup (for the club or whoever is burdened with distributing the stuff) + postage, and the main 'kitty' can be reimbursed as it were........

You can have one of these stickers for you car....

What he said :)
The only other thing i expect from the club is a parking space for my supra at the big events :)
I do agree that just being part of this website is worth £10 alone but it would be in the best interests for the club as a whole for members to receive items which advertise the club.
With more advertisement and more recognition the club could achive things like better value group buys, club insurance at more competative prices, etc. etc.
The bigger and more well known the club then the more 'power' it has at events, which can only be a good thing for its members..... don't you think?

Sending out gifts vouchers etc takes up an enorrmous amount of time annd money. Both would be better applied to thhe site. The Mods have their hands full enough as it is, and the idea of making this the best known Supra site and therfore bigger meets or more frequent meets is a great idea.Stickers and cards are great as it helps us mem bers to spread the name and make thhe site better known. My 2p worth.Lol:)
Regardss,
Sheena:)
was i supposed to get something when i became a member cos i never did? I thought i might get a membership card , but i think a small sticker for the window is a good idea .

IIRC you are in the pile of ones that are awaiting the new cards being made up. If you received an email from me asking for your postal address then you will be sent some, and, royal mail allowing you will receive them too....
Well, the majority seem to feel that the best way to go is:
First year members get stickers (and for now) cards
Second year (and beyond) renewals will not receive any "freebie" but the money will be recycled into setting up costs for merchandise, subsequently lowering the cost for members to purchase goods.
We are looking into the possibility of membership cards.
If members want more cards at any point they can have (within reason!!)

Rosie et all,
I enjoy being part of the club, freebies are nice, but the friendship & good times mean more, for my 2p worth, without you guys I would not cherish the fun and the help of the club. I'm sure the full members, would pay 10 times the fee, as the "club" and the work people like Rosie do is worth the fee.
Personally, my stickers & cards from Rosie at JAE and the fellowship at JAE amongst others evevts, made my £10 seem chicken feed. Long live the hard work by all involved, and I for 1 am not bothered about "freebies", let the good times continue, and let the membership expand. But let Supra Drivers every where, gather and enjoy the fun AND the fellowship this club brings to it.
To everyone that knows me, I wish you all the best for Christmas and the New Year, if you do not know me, the same to you, and you are only friends that I haven't met yet.
Best Wishes

I think what you said above is truly honest and sums up what all of us feel but perhaps are not as articulate. The club is much appreciated ..
