Toyota 040 white, changed at all?

Hi guys,

Bit of a random question, but was the 040 changed at all? Reason I ask is the gf has just got her ST205 Celica GT4 in 040 and it looks a lot more pearlescent than my Supra, now i know my supra has had a blow over at some point in it's life so i wonder if this has caused the colour difference?

I don't think the colour has changed, but have you taken it to a detailer or done any yourself with a Machine polisher? If you haven't you be surprised how much whiter the car is once its done.

Because i recently done mine and i saw the differences right away.

Also found it really hard to judge from photos what the two differences in the whites is. But the Celica's bumper is a different shade compared to rest of the shell, or maybe its the lighting.

Has she spanked you in a race yet?

the bumpers are nearly almost a slightly different colour unless its been repainted.

maybe its like silver which has loads of slightly different variations.

Is the paint code on the Celica VIN plate definitely 040? Toyota do a Pearl White, paint code 051, the Supra was available in this colour in the US.

both definitely 040, pearl's tricky to photographer but the GT4 definitely has a blue'ish tinge to it. I've detailed mine using a machine polisher, i think that from the blow-over the supra has had it's maybe not the same colour or lost that sparkle. I thought 040 was a flat white? I wonder if it's also the panels that it's sprayed on bonding differently, i know Toyota are known for colour differences between plastic/aluminium parts due to the paint not bonding aswell. I'm detailing the GT4 next weekend so will try and get some better pics after that lol

its probably the gt4 thats been resprayed then mate

There are two RSPs - an early one and a later one, I forget which is slightly lighter than the other but there is a difference. (Same paint code as each other, but a slightly different hue.)

Check behind the trim in the boot if it has been re-sprayed you may find the original non-pearl white

or if you find pearl there you will find fresh rivets on the vin tag

When I spoke to a bodyshop about painting my Soarer, they had samples of 3 or 4 slightly different shades for "Toyota White 051".

both cars look mint, lots of pride spend there.
