bonnet adjustment ???

sorry if its in the wrong section , but was wondering is there any way i can close a gap on the front by the headlight , its flush on the passenger side but on the drivers side id say its about 5 mm up , ive fitted glass headlights but can see that would do anything to the bonnet

it might not be the bonnet that needs adjustment. are you sure your lights are fitted correctly? was the bonnet sitting properly when you had the j spec lights?

i think so , or maybe id just not noticed see if i can find any pics just to check

Are the panel gaps running down either side of the bonnet even? Id double check the lights mate. My UK ones are a tight fit and do take a little persuading to sit fully back in position.

gaps down the bonnet are ok just seems to be up a tad above the drivers light , and obviously then not matching the wing

hmm post a pic if you can mate, it will give others a better chance of advising.

I have this problem when the bonnet doesn't catch properly and needs a good drop. Check that the rubbers are screwed in properly and make sure the bonnet catches line up with the hooks. Another thing to try is take the bonnet stand/prop thing out and see if that helps (turns out mine was bent so it kept poping the bonnet back up.)

I see what you mean, to me it looks like your bonnet has been bent/twisted slightly. The gaps look good as do the lights. has the bonnet been closed/slammed on something? Also have you fitted an aftermarket rad? top air intake sitting correctly? Just try eliminating the small things before moving the bonnet mate

There's normally a little rubber lad that you can wind up & down which the bonnet sits down on to stop it vibrating. Looks like yours needs wound down a little.

just been out to have a look , wound that rubber thingy down but no change , it feels like the reciever should be lower as when its shut i can lean on the corner and it moves down , so can that be droped a touch

Then i would check & see if both catches are working freely, looks like the one on the drivers side is stuck open.

Hi mate, if you have not had the bonnet off, try this: Lift the bonnet about 8 inches and give it a gentle wiggle and then drop it from that height. As been said it needs to catch properly. I had the same on mine (after about a2 years of it being spot on) and found that advice on Supra Forums. Job done. Hope that helps.

There is a catch just beside the headlight (to the right if your looking from under the bonnet) spray the catch with WD40 & work it with a screw driver. Also pull & push the bonnet lever in at the driver foot well, it could be the cable on that side has jammed.

ok thanks guys rab i think thats whats wrong , had the catch become sticky when i got the car back out, did the wd 40 , but looks like that side isnt working , ill give it another go later

Ideally your bonnet should close with just pushing down on it when it's on the first catch. Better to free things up first as i've seen cars brake catches from getting dropped from hights or slammed. I know your not saying slam it but you know how a small drop some people get higher & higher untill it closes or brakes.

The WD40 should help free it up. It's no harm to get a drop of white spray grease & give all door/bonet/boot hinges & catches a spray every service or 6 month, just helps keep everything free.

ill go and give it a squirt now then have a look at it later, thanks for the advice guys

Yeh your right there mate. Have freed it all up and now keep a check on it. Advice was just a quick fix, if it works as you say, be sure to get to work on the catches with the freeing agent and better still as you say, do the catches first.
