Electrical Issues

I got my Supra just a month ago and had plans for it striaght away but it seems someones atttempts a doing the electrics themselves is scuppering my plans.

First is the electric aeriel which after a while has a fit and just randomly goes up and down, previous owner already changed the relay once so I guess it's a lose wire.

Secondly the speed converter appears to be faulty as I've hit the 112 limiter a couple of times yet also sailed passed it and also the geabox doesn't always like changing up at full throttle, something i've also been told is related to the speed converter.

Thridly I've just taken the car into an alarm specialist to get the alarm ceritified as the insurance company wont accept the alarm paperwork that came with the car and they've said it looks like someone has bought it online and attempted a diy fittment as it's just held on with cable ties and there are wires for it and the speakers running across the steering column. So it's going back in next weekend to be sorted and certified.

Also I really don't like the stereo. It's a high end pioneer flip out but I really don't need a flipout as all it does is obscure the heater controls.

If I get time I might get a new stereo today and a Thor Speed Converter and sort them out myself this weekend and while I'm doing it I can see just how bad the wiring is behind the dash.

I wonder what else will crop up........

While you have it all to bits, do the "pink wire mod". Very simple and may well help your changing problem. Most insurance companies are clueless on alarms and some still talk about Thatcham certification in the same terms as it was before Thatcham thing came to an end. It may be easier and cheaper in the long run to get a new alarm fitted with the a new certificate and warranty that will satisfy your insurers.
