Sorry to rant guys but just gone to the gym where I work (Private University) and a Police Officer was walking around and came up to me......I'm thinking he's going to say something about noise as my NA is rather loud

NOPE.......apparently my front and rear number plates do not conform and ANPR would not pick them up......ABSOLUTE BO**OX, my front was made by Jurgen at JM-Imports and my rear has the British Standards stamp on it FFS! Apparently lettering is too thin and the spacing is wrong front and rear

Judge for yourself guys, front

and rear

Nope, looks perfectly fine to me!

Mine is pretty tiny, had an office come up to me in Chesterfield & mentioned it, I just rambled on about import sizes & bike plates & he said, that's fine then & walked off! Though my front are without a doubt too small.

I got a camera parking ticket so they can't be that small!

i'm not debating the lettering being slightly thinner but illegal, not a chance and you cannot tell me ANPR wouldn't pick either plate up, my dad was a traffic officer of 15 years and he cannot see any issue with either in his words 'the guy is just being a jobsworth'

Compared to some of the plates you see about with incorrect spacing to make words, italic/bold/shadow fonts, stupid playboy etc logos next to the reg grrr winds me up

I can't be bothered to pick up on small details like this when i'm on duty, I literally don't have the time! There are a hell of a lot worse number plates out there. I would be very surprised if an ANPR camera was unable to read yours mate.

The width of the numbers and letters on front and especially the rear look a little thinner than is allowed.

I would argue the Jap import angle.

Very clean looking NA by the way!

How wide are the letters/numbers on your plate Dan. My Jap plates are 11mm wide throughout. My two other cars on UK plates are 14mm throughout the width of all letters/numbers.

I wonder if he is getting confused with UK plates. If these have been done at Jurgens then they should be legal.

How it was when I got it. Then got pulled on my way back from JAE 2007.

This is what I was asked to fit and it looked awful.

This is what I did and they were legal and look similar to yours Dan.

I would write a letter of complaint and tell them to train the police officers before going around accusing people of illegal plates.

If its an import the lettering needs to be 64mm in hight

7 character registration = 410mm (have a 1 or I? = 380mm)

6 character registration = 350mm (have a 1 or I? = 330mm)

5 character registration = 300mm (have a 1 or I? = 280mm)

sod the plates there are some nice looking cars in this thread!!

Anyways back to the point my plates are the same as yours and i have had a few officers looking around my car and have never said anything about the plates.

But the law does state that if you can fit standerd UK plates on your impoted car you must fit them and you can fit them on your supra. But they usaul dont bother with this as long as they are import size which yours are so i really wouldnt worry about it to much he was just being a dick
