hello guys , just want to show how i have done my center consol. so i dont have the gauges all over the place

attachment.php?attachmentid=153251&stc=1&d=1339444695

Starting by sanding ALL! of the "rubber skin" of the panel..

attachment.php?attachmentid=153252&stc=1&d=1339444695

trimed the backside, so the metal plate fit

attachment.php?attachmentid=153253&stc=1&d=1339444695

like this

attachment.php?attachmentid=153254&stc=1&d=1339444695

and this

attachment.php?attachmentid=153255&stc=1&d=1339444695

front

Then i glued the metal plates to the panel with at strong sealer. and dryed it over night..

and i dont have it in picture. but i´ve drilled the holes for the guages ind the metal plate after the sealer had dryed..

so :)

attachment.php?attachmentid=153260&stc=1&d=1339445414

then i filed the front side with bondo/filler. to level out the metal plate with the front panel

next step, is to get the part ready for the carbon fibre mats..

the panels have to be blackish in order for the carbon to be 100% black :Pling:

attachment.php?attachmentid=153258&stc=1&d=1339445290

like this

attachment.php?attachmentid=153259&stc=1&d=1339445290

when the black coat is dry sand it with a 180grid paper

then its time to give the parts, and ligt coat of epoxy resin. and let it dry enough not to stick to the finger..

attachment.php?attachmentid=153261&stc=1&d=1339445853

start cutting the carbon matt out in pieces. big enough to every dash panels ..

attachment.php?attachmentid=153262&stc=1&d=1339445853

and when the Epoxy is ready .. lay i down on the panels. and push it gently to the epoxy

attachment.php?attachmentid=153263&stc=1&d=1339445853

trim of the edges back 2cm from the panel edge. so there is some fabric to turn around the edge

attachment.php?attachmentid=153264&stc=1&d=1339445853

so the front look like this

attachment.php?attachmentid=153267&stc=1&d=1339446452

thats that :D when al of the parts ar covered in carbon .. let the dry over night so it isn´t gonna move

attachment.php?attachmentid=153268&stc=1&d=1339446452

my work space (a spray booth ) and the gray beast in the back :eyebrows:

NOW:Pling:

comes the business part comes..

mix your clear Epoxy resin 2:1 and with a soft (wide) brush apply with "dapping" it on . NO brushing it on that will disdurb the fibres

attachment.php?attachmentid=153269&stc=1&d=1339446452

when the first coat of epoxy resin is dry . skuff the surface bag wery lightly with a 180grid. just to take the tops off the resin ... DONT mess with the fibres

attachment.php?attachmentid=153272&stc=1&d=1339447590

attachment.php?attachmentid=153273&stc=1&d=1339447590

attachment.php?attachmentid=153274&stc=1&d=1339447590

attachment.php?attachmentid=153275&stc=1&d=1339447590

this is after 2 or 3 applications

and then you just keep doing this procedure over and over and over again.. to the point were its totally smooth and non of the fibres i poking true, the surface

is it a pain in the ass to cut the holes back after its all ready?

or can you cut the holes after the carbon is laid ontop of the first coat but before you put the first coat of clear epoxy.

would be easier to cut, or does it disturb the fibres?

and how do you cut the holes so perfect and make it a neat job?

nice work bud

maybe you could´t. but there will still drible som resin down the holes. and then you wil have to cut anyway

i did just not have the nerves to cut the holes before, the resin/epoxy layer was thick enought ..

it is just cut with a carbide-cutting head and a pnumatik hand tool .. and smoothing with sandpaper ;D
