Prop help. Im confused.

OK people.

I have just tried to connect the prop that came with my TT engine and auto gearbox to the A01B diff that is on the car.

I wont fit, i tried to make the rubber mount/bush from the N/A prop fit but that failed also.

The prop does not seem to fit the diff at all.

What is the answer to this issue? Do i just need a different prop or do i need a diff?

The 3 bolt flange on the NA diff is different spacings to the TT flange, you can swap them though.

Is it the right length? just wont bolt up?

How do i swap them over?

Ive never changed one, there is a big nut on the flange, i presume you just undo that.

Just been to have a look and cant see a big nut at all?

I will chuck up some pics later. Now i know im not going mad!

Just took a picture of a TT6 diff i have in the garage for you, at a guess id say you have to undo this big nut in the middle to change the flange.

You might be better picking up a second hand tt auto lsd though tbh.

yeh you have to undo that nut and change the flanges over, thats what I had to do on mine

Now i see the issue.

I think i will price up a diff and then go from there.

Yes you will probably get away with changing the flange, however you should really reshim a diff when swapping flanges.

Your T.T. conversion will function better with a 3.769 T.T. auto A02B and you will get more for selling the 4.083 A01B than it will cost to buy the one one need.

How hard is it to swap a diff? Nuts and bolts job?

Nuts, bolts and Allen bolts, out&in in an hour.

Yup, fairly easy, you need a 12mm allen socket for the back of the diff and 10mm for the drivshafts, had to remove my exhaust an all.

The A01B is rare and worth £100? more than an A02B.

The exhaust is off anyway, One question are the driveshafts the same? or do i need different ones?

T.T. shafts are thicker and stronger than N/A yet fitments are the same for A01B and A02B, the N/A shafts will be fine up to 500ftlb?

I should also add anyone know the part number for the flange i need incase i dont find a cheap ish diff?

A new flange would maybe cost you more than a used diff.

Any old T.T. flange would do.

Used A02B diffs are readily available, yet A01B diffs are almost as rare as rocking horse facies.

I don't know what you're fretting about, just swap the diff for the one you need and be £100 better off.

Just to make sure i understand correctly, a crappy normal n/a diff will do for the part i need if i cant get the a02b? Just my car is sat at my mates lock up and it needs to be out of his way soonish

If I remember correctly, diff flange will cost you about £70 from Toyota. You'll also need a new nut which is about £4.

Now i understand, no point buying a working TT diff to steal the part from when i should swap the whole lot out and sell the A01B.
