Aerial Manual Switch (Override)

I've noticed alot of people disconnect their aerial due to not liking that remote control car look. Has anyone ever installed a manual over-ride switch.

As I understood the 90's spec celica's, there is an input to raise the aerial, and to lower it. I was thinking of making up a small circuit to be able to turn this on or off as required, didn't know if it had been done already.

Depending on how the circuit works, I was thinking I may be able to use a single throw double pole switch to lower the aerial on demand. If no one has any information on how the circuit works, I'll take some measurements on the weekend with wire colours and follow this up with a electronic circuit solution and give it ago. Disconnecting the aerial or unplugging the aerial box on the radio seems overkill, as it would be easier to have the option of both and just easily switch it off.

Basically you put a switch between the aerial invoke wire (Black with Red strip). Don't use the Pink/Blue wire as this could also turn off the factory amp if your car is fitted with one.

??? Not sure I understand the question. The aerial will go up I'd imagine.

I've got a switch that does exactly that. The switch is fitted to one of the blanking plates where the Slip Cont button usually is (I have an NA so those switches are blanked off). If you turn it on whilst driving, the aerial simply goes up.

PS: my switch simply makes a break in a single wire. The aerial is sent up by a rising voltage on a specific wire (can't remember which one, see Lyndon's post for details). It's retracted by a falling voltage on that wire IIRC.

I thought the signal may be a pulse, and not a constant voltage. Therefore a single pulse to turn on the aerial would not be active while moving. I wasn't sure how the system worked.

That makes it easy then if the aerial lowers on the falling edge of the votlage. I was worried a voltage would need to be switched to a different line to bring the aerial back down again. Sorted. Thanks stevie. I'll post a few pictures and diagrams for a reference on the forum to make it easy for people who can only look at pictures
