My NA-T Project - In The Beginning ..........

Lets kick off with the Turbo. Here we have a Mark "Mr Turbo" Kitchen Billet nitride ceramic roller bearing B3030 Hybrid I had specially made for my old MK3 7M-GTE. Despite the rust on the exhaust housing it's only done about 100 miles if that. Bearings are still sweet as. Rated at 800bhp (T04Z) but spools like a T04S.

When I get it back into stock I'll whip the housings off and have a measure up of the compressor and turbine :)

Message to self, don't run it as lean on the NA-T like you did on the 7M-GTE. (It wasn't detting but that turbine colour says it all :blush:)

Need to add 3 more studs and get a proper flange made for that exhaust housing.

I've added the TurboSmart ProGate 48 to my collection too as the downpipe was already designed to recirculate the waste gate exhaust.

I was going to get a cheap ebay one but then I got the whole lot for £850 (Turbo, Induction,Downpipe, waste gates & fittings), so I can't grumble. I'm also getting my 550cc Sieimans top feeds flowed and cleaned on his asnu in that price.

These are the Bosch T Coils just FYI :

Absolute beasts these are (wonder what they will go like with CDi up their chuff :D)

Just need ECU (Emerald K6 is in negotiation), charge cooler setup (core, pump, swirlpot, rad, piping) and TT Autobox fitting.

These are the dyno pack graphs from my old MK3 7M-GTE (3.1 Forged bottom end - Stock cams and valves sizes, ported, 3 angle valve job, knife edged guides & 8.5:1 CR).

Running the B3030 on a ProDrive modified Autobahn88 Manifold with TurboSmart 48mm Pro gate.

(These are hub figures not flywheel so flywheel is about 585 bhp & 563 lbs/ft with a 12% loss)

I don't really have a target as such. As a calibration specialist with a symbiotic feel for an engine with regard to mechanical sympathy I tend to give an engine what it wants.

I'm going to mock up the installation on my spare engine on the stand and then install it on the stock NA engine in the car and limit the boost to about 8 psi as it will be running on 95ron fuel. Meanwhile I'll build a fully forged motor using a second hand TT lump and install the TT autobox to enable me to develop the transmission controller.

Whats a comparison to that turbo, I'm unsure of the volumetric capacity so have no idea what to compare it against. 8psi on a T61 would be fine with stock injectors, but obviously this being a larger turbo I've not idea what sort of power you would be getting from 8psi. What is the size of the inducer wheel and .ar?

Well I'll be running 550's so that's not a problem. It needs to be less than 400bhp and 400lbs/ft or the NA autobox will sh1t itself. I think it will be about 350whp with similar torque @ 8psi looking at the graphs but it might make more higher up the rev range and need to be throttled down some more to 5psi or lower.

With the built motor I'll map it to about 1.7 bar but run a Cadbury's for high boost and a Bar for low boost + off. So about 550 whp on the high setting.

More than plenty for road use (and the stock TT Autobox ;) )

  • 3 weeks later...

Vipers NA-T manifold kit arrived a few days ago, what a bargain that was, NOT the usual XS Power rubbish either, the flanges have actually been machined true. Just need to modify it to suit the Turbo Smart waste gate (V-Band) and swap to a divided T3 flange.

Well the build will be in the order of ECU (K6), T-Coils (K6 drives these direct no igniter required), 550cc Low Imp Siemens Injectors and BFO fuel rail @ AFPR, Fuel Pump (Single 044 in tank), Charge Cooler, TT Autobox install, Autobox control ECU, Turbo and then finally the uprated engine build and 650bhp @ about 1.6 bar.

Interested in the chargecooler install as well.

Maybe I'll change the build order then :D

I've nearly installed my new seats. I have a full blue led kit to install as well as a set of 4, 17cm Alpine 2 way speakers. Just waiting to get some of Lee's front speaker brackets.
