Speedo converter question

Apologies if I'm being dense (I am new!), but I'm fairly confused by the whole speed converter/delimiter area and hope someone can help?

When I bought my car, the previous owner said he'd changed the speed dial to show mph - now this I took to mean he simply removed the physical kph disc and replaced with a mph one (the original kph one is in with the documentation). The speedo isn't very acurate, probably reading about 4 mph slow at 30 (more inaccurate at higher speeds).

The odometer is still showing kph.

The car is still limited.

Today we got the flashing O/D light on the dash. Haven't had chance to do any fault code checking re this (it happened for the first time late this evening).

Am I right in thinking that my car probably hasn't had a speed converter fitted? Is there any problems with not having one fitted (other than an inaccurate speed reading)?

Could this have any impact on the fact the O/D light is flashing?

Thanks in advance
