View Full Version : Introduction to MVP Motorsports

Hello all! I wanted to take a few minutes to officially introduce MVP Motorsports and myself. Many of you are already familiar with us, but for those of you that are not I wanted to give a bit more information on who we are.

MVP Motorsports was conceived in 1999 and officially opened its doors on April 10th, 2000. MVP originally focused on parts sales for the 1993-98 Supra Twin Turbo. Over the next several months our website was expanded to offer parts for about a dozen other imports, however our focus remained on the MKIV Supra we all here so dearly enjoy.

MVP is based out of Fort Worth, Texas and we ship world-wide 5 days a week. We can deliver direct to your door with FedEx, the US Postal Service (which transfers the box to your Postal Service), or Bax Global for larger orders (exhausts, seats, body kits). We can also deliver via Bax Global to a major international airport “near you” where you can pick up your parts. This is a cheaper shipping option, giving you more funds to spend on Supra upgrades. :)

Now for a bit about me personally for anyone that might care. I conceived the idea of MVP in 1999. At the time I was president of a computer company and was enjoying driving my modified Mitsubishi Eclipse. I thought MVP would be successful because there was a complete lack of reliable parts stores offering good service via mail order / internet. I wanted to offer a place to shop that actually answered the phone when you called and returned e-mails in a short period of time. I also wanted a detailed and specific website unlike anything ever seen. Thus I started working on MVP’s website in my spare time.

About the same time I upgraded my life to my first Supra, a 1994 Twin Turbo with 132,000 kilometers on the odometer. It was white with a red racing stripe down the center when I bought it. Other than the racing stripe I was instantly in love. 3 days after purchasing it I took it to a body shop for a custom silver paint job along with a genuine Blitz body kit. A few weeks later I had my Supra back looking much better and ready for my BPU modifications. I instantly upgraded the exhaust, downpipe, intake, and spark plugs. That was the last mild upgrades I ever did to my baby. Since 1999 I have owned a few other Supras, including my world record 8-second hardtop. Fast forward 5 years and I still drive my first Supra every day the weather allows. It now has over 260,000 kilometers on it and I still smile every time I mash the gas pedal.

Today, MVP Motorsports has moved from its modest beginnings in the corner of my computer store to a 1,580 square meter facility complete with in-ground chassis dyno and 3 installation bays. We have an on-hand inventory of just under $1M USD. MVP is a direct authorized distributor for all of the biggest names in our industry such as HKS, Blitz, Greddy, RPS, Powerhouse Racing, Brembo, Veilside, Do-Luck, AEM, Volk, JIC, and dozens more. We bring in the rare and discontinued parts you can not find anywhere else such as the TRD 10,000rpm Tachometer and TRD Steering Wheels. We offer products exclusively available at MVP such as the Fields Replica Harness and our Carbon Fiber Radiator Cooling Plate. (You can find these parts in other stores but they are purchased from us and remarked.) We are currently making custom seat belt pads with the famous “Supra” logo stitched into them, they will be available for shipping in October. The point is that MVP has always worked to be the true one source for MKIV Supras. We listen to our customers and try to stock what you want the most. If no one makes it then we have it made to our standards.

There are several sales representatives here at MVP, but you will not be hearing much from them. I will be the only person from MVP you will see here on your BBS. The reason is that even though MVP has grown into something I could have only dreamed about a few years ago, I still love my Supras. The MKIV Supra is the only car I work with here, excluding the IS300 and SC300 simply because I know the motors quite well. Other sales reps here specialize in other cars and take care of other communities’ needs. I take my job here very serious and I am extremely thankful that I get to wake up every morning and talk to Supra owners about Supras. I have a dream job and want to be doing this for a very long time.

My goal is to provide you with a unique and positive shopping experience from half-way around the world. For those of you that have already purchased with MVP, you know what to expect. For those of you that have not, I ask that you give it a chance. I think you will find that it is easier than you expect.

MVP can provide you with more parts choices, direct factory distribution with manufacture warranty, industry leading service, fast shipping times (often parts arrive quicker than if you order them from your own country!), and you will save money.

I am also here as a resource. If you have a question about a part or that funny sound your Supra is making, e-mail me or post it here. I prefer you don’t PM me please. I have been around Supras day and night for the last half decade. Even someone as dense as myself has picked up a little bit of knowledge in the last 5 years. :) I am happy to share what I have learned with you. Our Supra community, on the grand scale of things, is a very small little corner of our world. I treasure all the relationships I have formed while working at MVP and look forward to getting to know many more of you.

I apologize my introduction has turned into something so long and boring! I just wanted to give everyone an idea of what MVP and myself are all about. Thanks for reading. Oh, and I will be posting up (in a new thread) some introductory specials in the next day or so.

One last thing – as I struggle to learn all your unique English words and phrases please don’t make TOO much fun of me!!

Cheers,

Dusty

cool introduction, you wont have any problems with anything on this site. you have got a good reputation from lots of people who have bought items from your store and will continue to do so. running a supra is an expensive hobby, always good to save money. looking forward to future offers.
would be good to hear of your drag supra about what parts you find work best and how best to launch the supra. lots of people find it hard to get the best out of the supra. so would be good for people to find out what suspension and parts you have had the best out of.

all the best

One of the best introductions I've yet seen on a BBS, nice one Dusty and welcome.

Again, as he said, I can only recommend the superb service I received from MVP when Dusty shipped me and a couple of others on here Blitz SBC-ID's and Powermeter's - and a storming price too! :D

I am happy to share the information about my drag Supra. However, a lot of it will not apply to those of you that are not specializing in just drag racing. You would not want to drive my drag car on the street very often if at all. I did it a couple of times because it was fun and unique, but a drag-purpose car (of any model) is not street friendly.

Supras have a ton of power. The problem is harnessing the power and applying it to the ground properly. One of the most important things in a fast 1/4 mile time is the 60ft time. I think many people often overlook that. If you can knock 3/10's of a second off your 60ft you will knock about double that off your 1/4 mile time!

I am happy to discuss all this in greater detail at any time.

Cheers,

Dusty

Without a doubt. My race car runs a 1.3 60ft, my street car runs high 1.6 or low 1.7's. That is on drag radials and HKS drag coilovers...nothing special.

Dusty,

Can you give some rough ball park figures for 60ft times with a good bpu spec (approx 400bhp @ flywheel) Manual Supra on 18x10 rears with 275-35 street rubber? I know this is a very open ended question but I don't even know what a stock car should achieve this in?

Let's assume no launch control so only boost built is when clutch is slipped initially pulling away... :)

V8 Killer
28-09-04, 17:26
In the USA, on street tires, a BPU Supra should run a 2.1 easy and I've done high 1.8's. Anywhere between there is good. Above a 2.2 is a sign of an inexperienced driver and/or bad track preparation / conditions (cold track).

Dusty

Thank you for the quick reply, much appreciated.

I must admit, my car will probably never see the drag strip in anger as it's not really my thing, I prefer 30-100mph stuff beating down on some big £££ show room cars!

On a semi related subject, what clutch would you recommend for a 6 speed putting out max torque/power that the stock twins can offer at a max of say 19psi? As it stands I do not really want to ditch the stock dual mass flywheel as in my eyes it's far too important from a refinement and longevity standpoint. I don't mind if the clutch is say 30% heavier on the pedal than stock but would prefer not tooo snappy and with good service life and perfect integration with stock flywheel....

V8 Killer
28-09-04, 17:47
Understood. :)

I would recommend highly the RPS Sport Clutch with Street disc. It is rated to hold 525 foot-pounds of torque with only a 10% increase in pedal pressure. It uses a full-face disc that allows use of the stock flywheel and is easy to drive.

We could upgrade you to the Max pressure plate (same disc) but it is a lot stiffer and more than you need on a BPU Supra.

Remember you HAVE to replace your stock flywheel when you do this clutch job. Do not try to resurface it!!

Cheers,

Dusty

dandan
30-09-04, 18:14
Excellent, thank you Dusty.

I will of course be replacing the flywheel too, I can feel some play from it and although not excessive I'd like to replace it as a matter of course when the clutch is due.

Got a few other bits to fit in the meantime! :)

30-09-04, 19:04
Do you do Bling (Chrome bits, wheels for instance in stock sizes 16" for instance?) Everybody mods their cars so I decided to keep mine stock but make her the best R reg Vvti Faceliftmodel to be found!! Don't laugh too loud! Its not all just about speed looks are important too, Lol!!!!!

Regards,

Sheena:)

V8 Killer
30-09-04, 19:28
Show and go are both important, you're 100% right!

However, I don't consider 16" wheels on a Supra to be a show wheel. Come on, step up to some 18" mags! I do not know a SINGLE brand that makes 16" wheels for Supra fitment. In the USA the only 16" Supra is the Non-Turbo. The TT is a 17". I do have a FEW 17" wheels I could get.

We have a lot of engine dress, body dress, and interior looks parts to choose from. Please visit my website, I think you will find it to be quite informative!

Best regards,

17", 18", and 19" will fit straight on with NO modification necessary to your car. If you will go 18" I have the widest selection. I have only a few 17" models available.

USA Supra TT's come with 17" wheels so they aren't considered an upgrade, that is why the 18" is so popular.

Did you read my pm Dusty?

What did you think?

V8 Killer
04-10-04, 18:03
Hi Dan,

I have read your PM and I am still giving it some thought. What you are asking for is quite complicated to build 3 different types of. Its even more complicated because the only car I have here is the USA spec. So I would have a hard time building the other kits without them here to see the differences. Also, in the USA, finding a stock twin Supra that isn't completely hacked up or BPU+++ modified is very difficult.

While I agree with what you are saying might be popular how I can go about creating the product will be very difficult I think.

Cheers,

Dusty

dandan

OK Dusty,

I appreciate that 3 types would make things tricky. The late vvti spec may not be all that popular since all of those are post 1997 and there are more "normal" jdm's in this country anyway which will benefit from this.

I'll have a think about the differences as I have a normal and a vvti sat on the drive. I don't think the differences are actually that significant across all three, maybe in the plenum/intake area (of which I have a UK spec setup stripped in the garage).

Let me know if you think you might consider it or even if you get chance to look over a US spec in detail. I'll have a look on the epc program for the JDM part numbers and if I can get a copy of the US/UK data cd's I could check those too when I get some time?

Cheers

I'll take a look at a stock twin USA Supra the next time we have one in our shop. Problem is that is becoming rare. Almost everyone has a FMIC at the least. A true "stock" Supra here is more rare than any Ferrari it seems.

Any information I can gather I will contact you with.

I always wondered why most cars finish quicker on the 1/4, with a slower top speed.

Seems it's better to gear your car for acceleration than top end, even if you reach top speed before the finish and cross the line on the limiter, you'll be quicker than if you stay as 'normal'.

The next bbs special shipment you are doing... is it the same products as before? I had to head back to Texas for work just before xmas and all other things (incl ordering intercooler and exhaust etc) became totally unimportant and hence got ignored until now. I just wondered whether I still have the same oppurtuninty to order these bits and some of the others we discussed via email?

Update - Customs held onto the boxes a few days longer than normal, so they were delivered yesterday to my friend, about a week behind schedule. He is shipping everything out today, so everyone should have their parts sometime next week!

We will start our next BBS GB as soon as the products are delivered from this current one. I am going to try to mix it up with different products, so no promises. Of course you will still be able to buy the same products as before, just may cost a *little* more. I will figure out everything that will be on the GB in the next week or so.

By the way I still am after several stock bits, I'll resend you the list as I'm getting some from the UK as it is needed pretty quick.

FYI, we were shipping stuff back from Houston just before xmas and Customs opened every single crate and, all in all, our stuff took about 6 days to complete the delivery compared to 2 days on the way out of the uk..... xmas worries I guess?

If we have in stock at MVP everything you want and can ship the same day you order, then I can get it to you next week. You will have to use DHL or FedEx Priority to achieve this, but its totally possible.

A lot of Greddy gauges just got discontinued. I do not know what you are looking at but if its Greddy I likely will have bad news.
