Interior Retrim - Door cards

Right, here it goes.......

I'm planning on retrimming the door cards and the rear speaker surround plastics in red leatherette.

I've found this stuff on ebay for £5 a metre, and plan to use a strong spray adhesive, starting from the centre of the panels, and gradually stretching and sticking as I go towards the edges.

This idea looks really good in my head, and I think it will transform the interior beautifully, and make it that little bit different, and unique.

If it all goes well, may look at doing the dash as well, but we'll see.

If anyone has attempted anything like this before, any pointers would be greatly appreciated, as this is the first time I have tried something like this, but have high expectations that I will be able to handle it and that it will turn out nicely.

I aim to have this (door cards and rear panels) completed by the time JapFest comes around, so the results will be there for all to see (providing it goes well)

Personally I think thats a bit too much. The red I will be using will be brighter than that too.

Hopefully mine turns out ok. :S The theory is I will be able to do all the panels I want to do using just one piece of leatherette per panel, so avoiding any seams.

That interior would have looked alot nicer if he'd left a few bits stock, steering wheel for instance.

The leatherette for this has now turned up just waiting on the adhesive now and the project will begin. Will take the door cards and panels out before it goes in for the respray and tlc

Because after yesterdays dramas, I've been in the garage most of the day, so the missus isnt best pleased i spent my last day off work out there so im leaving it a couple of days before i go out there again.

Ok, im starting this tonight once the little one has gone to bed!!!! (around half 7 ish, with constant updates) (door cards tonight, rear panels later in the week)

The idea is, is to obviously cut the leatherette to size, and using an upholstery/carpet (pretty much anything) spray adhesive to stick it to the door cards. Then trimming the back to make sure there isnt toomuch excess, and then put the door handles back on, so it will, in essence, be a red door, with black handle.

I done this for a friend last year and used carpet fitting spray adhesive from work. It worked a treat on flat parts but gradually popped away from concaved parts. We use a stuff called contact adhesive that will stick anything to anything but it might be too strong and melt the material.

If it doesn't work out, I'll just remove it again, and use meths to take the glue off. No biggy. If I can build a full boot install, and cover that in carpet and have it look good, I'm sure door cards will not be too much trouble

Honestly mate take my advice I do this sort of thing everyday. Dont use carpet adhesive it will pop off the internal curves over time.

It isn't carpet adhesive itself, its a universal "super strong" spray adhesive, used for upholdtery mainly, and states on the can its good for use on leather. We'll see how it goes.

Sorry I call it carpet adhesive cause its what we use everyday for carpet but it is all the same can use on anything really.
