View Full Version : J-Spec ISO Connectors
Hi Guys,
Couple of quick questions:
1/. I am dumping the double DIN stock J spec so I can use the lower DIN slot for switches. Where can I get an ISO connector suitable for the J spec?? Tried Halfords but they are less than useless.
2/. All I want is a decent single DIN CD player/Radio that looks the Mutts in the Supra. I have dumped the Sub so I will only have the front & rear speakers. Any suggestions on Head Unit?

Terry,
Apparently (i could be wrong tho) the part number for the supra ISO connector is PC2-17-4 (Autoleads). This is on the caraudiodirect.com website, so I am going per them!
Regarding a headunit, I love alpine stuff but each to there own. How much have you got to spend, and I'll make some recommendations for you mate.
Regards,
Gaz
Cheers Gaz.
About £300 for the head unit sounds about right.
Not sure about the ISO connector. Looked on that site & I think that's probably a UK one. I am sure the UK & J spec are different.

Terry,
Top of my list would be the Alpine CDA-7894RB with is about £360 on a few sites (however I am sure I could get it to around £300 if I spoke to a few mates).

BTW, caraudiodirect.com are cheap compared to Halfords et al but expensive compared with other online retailers, but they are very good.
Ask Matt what he can do when he comes back :)
Gaz.
 Wow Gaz that will give me something to look at!
I bought the ISo connected from Halfords and it worked fine on my import. I plugged it in to the JVC head unit and off it went.
Choice of headunit depends on what you want, I dont care about sound quality (in a car with a decat and NurSpec sound quality isnt going to matter...) so I go for something that looks nice. The JVC Chameleon units are full black face units with some snazzy features and a nice display. I have a Sony blackface in my UK spec and that has some nice features as well. Neither of those units will be top end on sound quality (although Barry is building his system based on the JVC) but they work well and look very nice indeedy. Oh, Leon has the Sony black face as well.
JB
You & I may be going shopping soon JB:D
Matt Harwood is 'da man' when it comes to getting ICE. He can show you the latest gear and get it at a great price. His car is a shrine to all things ICEy.
Oh, and Costco sell the JVC units, I picked my old one up very cheap compared to the shops.
JB
Terry,
Definatly speak to Matt before you look anywhere, he WILL do you a very good deal and is more than helpfull.
As JB says I'm sticking with the Chameleon as it has all the functions that I need, including the 3 pre-outs (1 dedicated sub) and 1 RCA input (for the TV's once there in).
It basically ideal for what I want to use it for.
I remember walking round Max live a few years ago with JB (I know, sad!, I mean being at Max, not with JB!!! :) ) and we both almost brought the Chameleon then but they would only give us a £5 discount for buying 2 units!!! (tightarse gits!).
I then went and bought the newer model which has all those nice features. JVC have now released new models with even more snazzy gimmicks so they have to be worth looking at :)

All you need now is Matt to come back!
Gaz.
Cheers Guys!
I'll wait on Matt then.
It's not a busting rush as I need the car running first LOL!
I have the Kenwood Z838W, IMHO its the poodles privates. Looks great and sounds even better.
But having said that the displays on the Pioneers are (slightly) better and I found the display on the back sonys very chunky and pixelated.
Just my 2 cents! :moo:
Terry, Matt is back from hols now, time to go and choose some ICE....
We can all make a day of it if Matt wants a Shop Meet....
JB
Cheers JB. On Holiday from Friday. We'll make a date when I get back. I have sent Matt a PM.
BTW, If you want to meet up tomorrow night for the bits send me a PM

Thanks for the kind words guys:)
If there's enough interest, I'm happy for a shop meet. Either on a Saturday or I can open up on a Sunday just for you guys... What ever suits everybody best.
Parking is no problem. I have an industrial unit with stacks and stacks of open space.
BTW, I have no PM from you yet Terry.
Thanks Matt. The PM should be in your User CP.
I will be guided by you as to what to buy. Give me some options. I am away tomorrow until 03/09.

Guided by me??? :flame Dev And you thought tuning your engine was expensive!!! - Where's ya credit card;)
Seriously, I'm more than happy to help. - We'll have to have a chat about what you want from it.
Still no PM though... The only ones I have are about the boost controller... You haven't sent it to Matt H. (Hickman) have you?
I'll send you quick hello anyway.
So how about setting a weekend for the shop meet then?
Saturday 21st September?
JB
Matt, please dont have a meet at your shop, I couldn't afford it.!!! :) (what did I do with that shopping list!?)
Have you had an open day recently? Maybe speak to 'Total Car Audio' or simelar and get them to do a write up one month. Get all your best customers down there and make it an SPL test day?!
And Sunday would be ideal as the other units will be closed, so knowone to pi$$ off with all the noise!

I'm happy to do a Saturday or a Sunday although as Barry says, on a Sunday we'll have the entire car park to ourselves and no-one would get upset. Also, if we do it on a Saturday I'll have normal customers coming in and tearing around the estate in their Nova's Saxo's and Festa's... I'd hate to have to kill someone for putting a Supra at risk with a Nova!
Seriously though, I'm happy either way. On a Saturday, I'll be here anyway, on a Sunday, I'll open up just for you guys.
Barry, think of all the bits you could have!!! 0% finance available... Storecard... Buy now pay later :flame Dev
Matt - Its all very tempting, but I dont like doing anything on credit, I like to pay cash when I can. I hate owing money, hence the reason I dont have/want a credit card.
I might get you to do the finishing off for me as my triming isn't really upto much, and I fancy something nice, rather than the thick carpet that hides all the imperfections that I've got half fitted at the moment.!!! :D
Matt Harwood

Only kidding mate:)
You'll need to speak to one of the guys that work for me regarding the trimming. The onlt trimming I'm good at is trimming my VAT return down :D Even then I can't get it how I'd like it!!!
Thats fine, I'm not worried who does it.
I was looking through Total Car Audio and quite like the finish using glass fibre, sanded down and pained to give a shiny plastic finish. We shall see.!

One of the guys at work has just done a small footwell sub box infibreglass.
Huge amount of time went into it but it does look good!
Hi Matt,
I saw the MP3 unit you supplied to Alex on Saturday night which looked very smart. How much would that run me to??
PM me please terrysaunders@reycol.com
