No Speedo (Stupid Garage Rant)

Had to take the Supe in to a local garage as the exhaust was blowing and I've not had the time (or decent ramps) to look at it.

Turns out it'd eaten the gaskets on the mid-pipe. Cost me £50, but at least it was done. Great, except now my speedo doesn't work and the O/D OFF light is flashing.

How the hell can you break the dashboard fixing a bloody exhaust? Looks like they've had the battery disconnected as my stereo has reset, could that have any bearing on things?

I'm having to use my sat-nag until I can take it back on Monday.

Like Robzki said, the only two plausible reasons for the dashboard faults are:

1) they've disconnected the speed sensor from the gearbox and not re-connected it (highly likely if they've been fiddling with the exhaust)

2) they've taken the dash fascia off which feeds the speed signal to the speedo (unlikely)

Took it to Westways in Whitehaven. Went back straight away, but they'd no space to look at it then.

Not checked the fuses or codes yet, I've been struck down with a stomach bug and dearn't leave the house, lol. The O/D light is flashing regularly.

Ah right, didn't know if you'd have taken it somewhere in Chorley

Nah, it's easier to use a garage up there as I have a bike I can use during the week.

I'd say it's a gearbox sensor snag, no doubt melted with a gas axe when removing a stubborn exhaust

Joy. That doesn't sound good.

It'll be going back to them when I get back to Whitehaven on Monday. If they've fragged any sensors then they can pay for repairs.

Logical explanation is they have knocked a plug off the gearbox or broken a wire.

Looks like they've broken your 6 speed gearbox and will need to compensate you accordingly :sly:

Either that, or the auto box is worth £2,500 in compensation ;)

Westways in Whitehaven. Not brilliantly impressed so far. I got trailered there ages ago when I threw the aux pulley and they forgot to put the undertray back on. Didn't notice for a week or so. They are just conveniently within walking distance to the b&b.

Fair enough! I know most of the garages in Chorley through work, think the only one I'd use would be Tony @ Weldbank at a push. There is a good Jap Specialist in Leyland, an Ex-TDi Employee.

That's who did my paintwork. Took 2 attempts and there are still runs on the boot lip. They also failed it's MOT when it came out of the spray shop for having incorrectly adjusted headlights, well yeah, the whole car has just been stripped.

Might be good mechanics, but they blew it with that.
