Guest giffy1988
hi all Looking to purchase another mkiv but apon reading the description it says it over heats after 1-2 hours driving. is this something to steer clear of or is this a commen fault and easly repairable. i know its not the greatest of info but dont want to tavel 100 miles if it turns out to be a likley head gasket problem thanks for any replies in advance Dan
Dnk
1-2 hours ? If it has overheated in the past which it sounds like it has i'd go find another one unless this is silly cheap. It could have a warped head now which if its more than 0.1 mm the heads as good as scrap. TT or NA ? and details on the car like the sales advert and how much is it. Guest giffy1988
i thought 1-2 hours was strange as it would over heat once up to temprature. it says a n/a but on getting an isurance quote there saying it is a TT. its only up for £1250 and this has got me wondering why as all the other mkiv's are at least £2500 Dan Edited February 16, 2012 by giffy1988 (see edit history)

Dnk
If its an NA the motors are pretty cheap but i still think its too much hassle unless its in really good nick and you can drop another motor in yourself

Josh
£1,250? Could be worth checking what parts are on it and buying it to break (if you have the time)!
Abz
Sounds like the seller has compensated for a blown engine at that price. If it were me & it was in good condition, I'd buy it. If the engine did fail then a replacement is only a couple hundred pounds.
Lude
yea true. engines are cheap. but do you really want to buy a car, get a new "unknown" engine, pay for it to be swapped over? or just buy a car with no problems and enjoy it. there are loads of NAs around
creative
Blocked rad? Mine used to overheat after about an hour... That was due to me doing motorway driving kept air through. Through town it was a different story! Some days it didn't do it some days it did. Rad was 45% blocked. Swapped it out and it never did it again..
