power steering pump noise

Before you go nuts with the refurbs etc.....

There is a little strainer thing at the bottom of the reservoir. It can sometimes clump up with a load of crap which I assume starves the pump as loads of members have noticed a massive improvement after cleaning it out and putting some nice fresh PS fluid in there.

There are a few methods to cleaning out the reservoir. I would recommend the syringe method as that is the least likely to damage the pump, but the other method is to remove the return pipe and just crank the engine with the EFI fuses out. This will pump the fluid into whatever container you have, you can clean out the reservoir strainer thing and then you can put clean fresh fluid in.

Give that a try before spending any real money :D

check there is fluid in there first,

then check that the fluid isnt frothing (if it is, there is air in the system)

check all the pipes that go to pump and resivour are not split, as this will allow air in.

check there is no fluid leaking from the pump itself, as they are common for the seal to go.

you can buy a gasket kit from toyota for £25.

you can buy the rubber pipes on ebay (under £10 per metre) * must be certain oil resistant type of rubber though

if its not leaking anywhere and the fluid is good, as above, chris wilson refirbs them :)
