Engine Options....advice pro's/con's

Currently trying to decide what's the best method to go about getting boosted :), i currently have a 98 SZ-R so have the V161 box so that's one headache I don't need to worry about.....now i'm looking at a few different options on what to do in terms of engine swap or na-t etc etc, my power goal is around 600whp (although i'm not really chasing numbers) just to give you guys a idea

I've got a few options and would be interested to see if anyone has done any of them or there thoughts pro's/con's on them

1 - go NA-T on my GE engine but fit forged or TT pistons to lower compression sufficiently to allow for the higher power

2 - i've been offered a 1JZ-GTE engine at a good price, I can then go single turbo....my only gripe about this is there's very few manifold options of decent quality unless I go to the states where again there isn't that many, also iirc I will need to have a custom downpipe as neither 1J or 2J will fit?

3 - Keep my NA block but fit the 2JZ-GTE head and again forged or TT pistons, haven't seen many people go this route I believe there's issues with CPS if I were to go down this road?

4 - spend a little more on a 2JZ-GTE engine and just put a single on and be done with it?

Now I know the most straight forward method is option 4 however i'm wondering if for my power goals is it really as cost effective as the other options? I will be doing the majority of the swap myself with the help of a friend so labour costs aren't too much of a issue

Interested to hear peoples thoughts and experiences

Dan :)

Thorin's answer would be the best and least costly route.

If you want to keep the car I would do a 2JZ-GTE swap and run it at BPU power levels (380-400hp) for a while before deciding to do a single install. NA to TT is a big step power wise, NA - 600hp is a huge (and expensive) jump.

agree with this, a facelift 6 speed converted to stock tt or bpu will be a great next step, will require some 'fun' DIY'ing and I'd expect all money invested in the conversion would be recoupable should you feel the need. Given that, the option of selling and buying a ready done single would still be there (fun can be had maintaining and tweaking one) or you could go the next step and single it.
