Never had an issue but common sense must be applied. There is no point in firing the water at the spark plug cover as it's a bit of plastic that takes 2 seconds with a cloth. You need to concentrate on the areas that you can't easily get to with a cloth, and stay away from any problem areas. A jetwash has a lot of power but doesn't actually use a high volume of water, hence why these are the weapon of choice.

 

I don't even cover anything up on my car when I'm doing it, I just don't go near the ignitor or anything like that while spraying.

I should of stated the obvious as Scott suggests dont go blasting the electrical bits, having an airline

is handy to as you can blow away any water then spray with a water repellent like WD40

 

The only thing i do on my car is bag up the air filter and use common sense :)
