I've searched and searched and can't seem to find any figures on what applications the Apexi or others would be suitable for. JamieP Posted December 20, 2011 Share Posted December 20, 2011 Flow rate will depend on the size of the filter, what size is the inlet on your turbo? 800bhp is about the change over point from 4" to 5" inlet on the size of turbo you need to make that power, do apexi make big 4" and 5" cone filters? Dnk Posted December 20, 2011 Share Posted December 20, 2011 Not sure where they get £200 from for the Apexi. The test done is pretty basic but i've no reason to doubt it's results. I can't comment on if there good for 800 hp but my 400 hp tt runs fine on the Apexi, i'd guess 800 would require a bigger surface area so as long as you got a bigger cone then i can't see why it wouldn't. Put simply its nonsense, the power gains were measured by repeatedly dyno'ing an already modified MKIII Supra 1JZ-GTE and swapping the filters, and the filtration test was done by duct taping the filter to the end of a henry vacuum cleaner then throwing a cup of dirt at it, so obviously the HKS and the Blitz did the worst as they let air in from the front whereas the K&N and Apexi filters only let it in from the sides. Since that "test" was done in 1999 Apexi have redesigned their filter and HKS has changed the make-up of their element to a 3 layer one. Don't think anyone does an airbox for a single Turbo Supra. Which is a shame as the standard airbox with high flow element is no doubt more efficient. The Sonic power ones look good but not sure they will cope with the power. I am not bothered enough by the looks to jeopardise efficiency/power over looks, but it would have been nice to have discovered one which was capable of both.
