Guest Budz86
Had the car on the dyno at Austec a few weeks back and she made 366bhp with around 370 ft of torque. I had set my boost controller to 1.2 bar and according to the peak reading, that's what it hit. Looking at the graphs and talking to dude afterwards showed it only hit a shade over 1 bar so he's suggested fitting a mechanical boost gauge to get a more accurate reading. I've been looking at the Blitz one's as I've already got a couple of their carbon DCii's in the car a really wanted to keep them all matching, but how accurate are these? Also do they need a live unit to run from or is it just a case of running the hose into the engine bay and putting a T connection in somewhere? Also as these are illuminated I assume I would just need to take a live feed from one of the other gauges? Is there any other gauges apart from the Blitz ones that would work better? Or has anyone got one lying around they don't need anymore that they want to sell? Thanks
dive_popo
you only need to run a hose and put a T on a vaccum hose and connect a + and a ground to the gauge i used this how to guide: http://mkiv.com/techarticles/boostguage/bg.htm but I run the hose and put the T on the small hose on the blow off valve ( as i was told the mesures are better) I'm using the Apexi's boost gauge and it works great
Chris Wilson
Mechanical (Bourdon tube) gauges just run off the hose. the only electrics they normally need is for dial lighting. I would ALWAYS use a mechanical gauge for pressure and often temperature, too, unless the budget runs to something very expensive in terms of an electronic pressure gausge. Cheap ones are often inaccrate and unreliable. Mechanical gauges mean less OE, and often low end, wiring strung around the car. I use and like Raceparts gauges. Good price, and had one failure out of well over 70 gauges from them, over many years. That one only had the needle misaligned from new and was immediately exchanged. Dome cheap gauges like Defi don't even show pressure immediately on cranking, when they see a voltage drop when the key is turned to the start position they go through some noisy and tedious self setting routine, so you can't see the critical engine start oil pressure rise. spikedjack
I have a SARD one that seems to work better than anything else i've ran in the past
