Tyre Size Help

Guys,

I currently have 265/30/19 & 235/35/19 on my 10inch and 9inch wheels...Tyres are Falken FK452..

The tyres are pretty stretched so I want to change to a wider size..

I was thinking of putting the 265's on front rim (the 9inch) and buying 285's for the rear..

Questions;

1. Will the 265 and 285 combo work out without affecting the handling?

2. The Falken is only available in 285/35/19.. Would the increase in profile from 30 to 35 be a major difference to the gearing?

3. If I went 275/30 and 265/30 would that be ok?

Thanks mates..

FK452s are shocking mate. I have exactly the same issue. The rears are just ridiculous looking.

You will just about get away with 265s on the front but I think it might be going a bit far to be honest, even with the FK452s. I would definitely go for 245s on the front and at the very least 275s on the rear when talking 452. I've got a set of 285s waiting to be fitted to mine and they are HUGE compared to the falkens, not just 20mm bigger either.

Why do you want to change them? The fronts look fine the rears look a little stretched, I'd leave the 235's on the front and just change the rears to 275/285.

The rears are very stretched Nic, looking from the rear, you can see the lips only.. Fronts are not so bad as you say.. I was trying to avoid buying a full set and get wider tyres all round.. I am worried the 275 Falkens will still be stretched.. Falken only make a 285/35 which is gonna throw the gearing out, the 275 is the largest 19 inch in a 30 profile.

Yeah, the guy in the tyre shop showed me a Dunlop when I was choosing tyre sizes, when the Falkens were fitted I was shocked.. They are a decent tyre otherwise, grip is pretty good..

What brand is the 285's Scott?

I think you need to take on board differant makes of tyres will have a differant look

when fitted.

Just fitting bigger tyres isn't the answer and if you go too big they wont inflate

to their correct profile and youll get poor grip, poor wear and tyre roll.

The sizes you have are correct for the rear, you could go up a size on the front to

245 though, if either should look wrong or stretched it should be the front not the rear.

Hey mate, you are correct..

As Scott mentioned, the Falken design comes out stretched at the rear..

I will investigate a 275/30 at the rear, if not ok I will just run these tyres out and take it from there..

Most likely will upgrade to a better tyre at the same time..

Thanks for your advice.

I would prefer the tyre to cover the lip...:D

You need to buy a tyre that has rim protector built into the sidewall like my Contisport contact 2's have, if you look at them from the back they still look stretched even when their the correct size though so you need to do a bit of searching to see what make has a more vertical or squarer sidewall
