Thought about doing a project thred for some time now. ill start off with some history about myself and my car interest. I've done work on several cars. first project was a Volvo 740 that i changed the engine in from the stock B230et to a B230ft and change the engine management from Motronic to K-jettronic did this when i was 19 years old. then i bought several BMW E30, 325IX 325IM and what not, got a nissan 200 s13 and did a fair amont of modifications. the real big project was my Toyota supra Mk3, i totally rebuilt the engine modified the lubrication system and built it with a forged bottom, bigger valves, 272 cams and what not and a Schwitzer S300 turbo (BW S300). After a while i got bored with the project and ive always wanted to own a Mk4 Supra that was like my dream since wayback. but i really could not afford a Euro/US -spec one and when the exhange rated as promising i was looking alot for a RHD mk4 to get my hands on. i looked at several and wanted additional information on some. In the end i decided to go for a supra from Scotland from John. we arranged the deal and he sent me LOADS of picturs on every little dent the car had and was really a nice guy overall.

We had settled a date, and i flew from Sweden to pick her up. I had already talked to Keron about buying a few parts from him such as a Set Euro rear brakes and some OEM parts needed for the swedish MOT as the car need to be pretty much in OEM condition when doing the registration MOT.I drove from Scotland border to Kerons shop and from there i continued down to Harwich harbor.Took the ferry to Denmark and from there i drove to Fredrikshavn and another ferry to get me home to Gothenburg. was a nice drive and there where some awsome old bentlys on the ferry to Denmark aswell ;) finally home i made some plans for the MOT and how i wanted the car to look ingeneral. I modified the Headlight to mach for LHD traffic by grinding the angle for the headlights. i also bought an complete catback OEM exhastsystem from Russvvti to fit to get pass the emissions controls.

i also wanted the car to look pretty much as stock and i did not like the interior beeing colour matched so i painted it all black, also painted the wheels black and some other stuff such as the mesh in the sideskrits and other parts that where silver. and fitted a FCD as there was none and i dont like bashing the head in the window :)

The car passed MOT with no problem and i was a happy man pretty much the whole summer. I bought 2 sets for rear lights from Keron 1 set of brand new and 1 set of damaged used one. I wanted to get rid of the old looking amber light from the stock ones and as ive wanted to car to clean using mostly 2 colours black/blue i also wanted the mesh inside the light to be black. this is the result! After a while i heard a knocking sound from the engine and i tought it was a comming from one of the camshafts as the tollerance for a valve would be to much. when the autum came i decided to take the engine apart mostly becouse iam verry curious and wanted to see the inside and also for the obvious knocking reson. and as i was going to paint the engine bay to match the colour of the car and was lifting the engine out anyway.

I found what had caused the knocking it was a bad rod/wristpin that had some wear to it and made the piston move up and down causing the knocking sound. this is pretty much where iam today ive torn the whole engine apart and as i write this iam waiting for some parts. Plan is to get brand new set of pistons, rods ACL bearings hone the bores and pretty much just make sure that the engine is brand new more or less.

Update!

Well i have eventually started to get some stuff done with the engine. i have messured pretty much everything. Crank shaft, Thrust clearence on crank and rods, Plastigauged the bearings. i just wanted to make sure everything was in order or atleast within the tollerance. and it indeed was.

attachment.php?attachmentid=145005&stc=1&d=1327432595

I got pretty bored when i had bought a brand new set of oem rods and pistons from a member here and discoverd as i unpacked them, they had severe damage. they guy said i broke em myself and said he would certanily not by any meens take them back. (its a really long story in the end paypal refunded me) this is a taste how they looked

This was pretty frustrating and took alot of energy trying to solve. i think it took about 1.5 month before i had gotten my money back, dont really remember but it took a decent amount of time and involved alot of stuff to prove my innocent. I decided i would do some polishing instead to get something done. i repolished what had once been polished and decieded i wanted to polish the intake aswell.

After mesuring the engine block i took it to a machine shop to get the bores honed as i will be using new piston rings when i got it back i started to do some painting as iam waiting for my ultrasonic cleaner to start reasembly the cylinder head.

I have now made the order from MVP motorsports for:

1 set of piston rings

1 set of ACL bearings

Toyota OEM oilpump

Toyota OEM Waterpump

Toyota Gasket set

ARP Rod bolts

ARP main bolts

ARP head studs.

Hopfully parts should arrive in about 3 weeks and then i can reasembly the engine. iam starting to feel some pressure as i want to start with the engine bay and paint it.

Thanks! Well iam doing all the effort my self or atleast most of the parts for obvious reasons i have to get some of the work done by the machine shop like honing the bores. other that that is down to my own hands and to make sure i dont mess up :) but iam pretty confident it will workout. as i have no intentions as for now to get more power. i got bored of high hp cars that i been more under then driving. i just want a summer car that is reliable.

As i dont like the torqueing of stretchbolts i decided to go for ARP assembly bolts. next on the list will be to make it LHD. but thats pretty far into the future.

Doing all this due to a piston wristpin was worn might seem abit overkill but i rather be safe then sorry. Hopefully i get my longwanted Ultrasonic cleaner tomorrow and will start working on the cylinderhead.

Thanks for the positive attitude!

Thanks!

I got my ultrasonic cleaner and iam going to grind in the valves during this weekend. already cleaned the pistons and some more parts. will add pics when iam grinding in the valves. going to be some boring wait time now for gaskets and parts. as i need the valvesteam seals to assembly the head again. good thing ive bought some gearbox seals from CW so will be fitting them during my wait. i have also cleaned up pretty much most of the parts now. hopefully i can rearrange some in my garage so i can start with the enginebay.. it needs ALOT of love.

got a few hours freetime today so i decided to start working abit on the cylinder head. iam not aiming for any flowcharts or anything just decided to abit of a clean up and fix some stuff that i thought was abit off.

started of with going trough the combustion chamber. with the Valves in the ultrasonic cleaner getting degreased and cleaned.

Ive also grinded the valves to make sure that the cylinder head is 100% air tight. the ports are not 100% done yet iam going over them with a finer grit this weekend or when i get time and if i can be arsed i will polish the exhaust ports aswell.

ive pretty much cleaned up all parts now and atm iam pretty much just waiting for the parts from US to arrive.

this is it for now.

So as iam still waiting for parts from the US i decided to take care of the gearbox. I had bought some seals from chris wilson. Rear seal and shifter seal. so decieded to put them in today.

i used the impact gun to remove the nut holding the flange inplace.

used this tool for removing the flange.

New seal in place.

i put the flange in the own and heated it up to 90 degrees and gently tapped it back, i used my torque wrench and tighted it up to 132NM

i also cleaned the whole gearbox up but seems as i did take any pictures, will do next time iam getting my hands dirty!
