View Full Version : max size of front speakers
I had the inside of my door off the other day and was dismayed to find tiny little speakers there. I was going to put in my Ground Zero speakers from my old Celica but they are way too big.
What is the maximum size speaker that will fit into the front. I've had a quick search through the old messages and some people have 13cm speakers at the front. Do these fit in without any modification to the plastic mounting frame?
Cheers,
James.

No chance I'm afraid. You can cut the enclosure around to fit 13cm speakers providing they're not too deep.
You can mount 17cm speakers directly to the door card - Not the best method but certainly the easiest. - Flavio has the best method of mounting speakers in the doors. Go back through the older threads and I'm sure you'll find his pictures.
I made a mdf collar that fitted onto the stock box then fitted some Kenwood coax 13's to the collar... ..easy peasy and sounds 10 times better than stock
Although they sound cool enough , I'm putting in some 6 1/2'' when I get the car back ...... the bigger the better !
Its fairly straight forward to make a mounting plate to replace the existing box, but a lil time consuming........
Maybe I should make a few sets??
I had a friend make me some MDF rings for my last car. I don't really have the right equipment to cut holes but I may well buy the tools I need to make some more.
I plan to make a bass box in a few weeks so I'll need some more tools anyway.
