Hi all.

Iv been to look at a supe today and would apreciate your views on the asking price.

Its a K plate Jspec TT in black, totaly stock with 103,000kms

it looks tidy eccept the odd scratch and small dints.

the engine was very quiet and there was no funny noises.

when he first fired it up there was a bit of white smoke but it has not been run for 4 - 5 weeks.

the interior looked ok and the engine bay was quite clean.and the oil lookes fresh.

I had a go and it picked up well but there seemed to be a bit of lag in 3rd at 3000rpm untill it reached 4000rpm then it was ok.

Its still got the restrictor on.

he wants £9000.

he says it would easily sell for 11k but he sells at trade.

what do you all recon ?!?!?

thanks in advance..

kev...

I'd go back and see the car first thing in the morning (not necessarily tomorrow morning) to see if it makes the same smoke when the car has been stood for several hours, it might be that the valve stem oil seals are worn (£1000+ job)

Its a manual.

Good. Not a bad buy in that case. Black is the most desirable colout too.

It didnt smoke once it had been running for a while.
Smoke from valve stem seal leakage only shows itself for a few seconds after the car has been standing for several hours. It's not the end of the world if the seals are on their way out.

I cant really go back in the morning as its in liverpool and im in rotherham. its a good 1 and a half hours drive !!
You can't buy the car without going back, can you? Just get there early.

Worn valve stem seals will usually show bluey smoke and smell of oil. But as Jake said, it's not a massive problem.

If it was farily cold when the car was first started, a bit of clear/white smoke shouldn't be a problem providing it's only once at cold start, and clears within a few seconds/minutes.

£9k doesn't sound too bad for a manual if it's in good condition generally. Not bargain of the century, but not bad.

I don't think I've ever seen Clear smoke :D

Mine certainly smokes more white than blue but I presume that's due to the condensation as well.

Iv just remembered, there was a bit of water that dripped from the exhaust.

atleast I think it was ! it was a bit brown in colour and was odourless .

Jake: I dont think im that interested to travel back down there, the more I think about it the more I think I could get a better package, i.e. some half decent wheels etc, as the ones on it were absolute dog shit !

plus you'v put the shits up me with that valve stem oil seal talk:p

White smoke isn't actaully smoke, its steam. As posted above, it'll just be condensation. Or, if your really unlucky, headgasket! :D
