Hard work paying off....

Thanks everyone :D

It was an epic weekend from the start with a 12 hour slog in the truck there. Knockhill is infamous for the hill and the semi-pro's were giving the traingle oval for their qualifying. Have to say though this was still a good section of track and really enjoyed it. I was chuffed to bits when the results were read out during drivers briefing and I was 6th. The top 8 semi-pro qualifers were then asked if we would rather do our battles on the triangle oval or if we would like to have a crack at the hill, myself and 5 others all opted for the hill.

We were allowed half hour practice before going into battles so really not long to lay down some lines, but I can say without fail initiating over a blind hill at 60/70 odd mph into a corner that drops away to the right really makes your pooper clench up at first, I dont think I've ever sweated so much in my suit, I could feel it running down my body inside the car :D

But the hill was very comparable to sex, scares the shit out of you hearing people talk about, even watching some of the pro drivers struggle, but once you've done it once or twice you find your form.

So my first battle was against a Sierra, he had problems from the moment he tried to start his car in the holding area, couldnt get it started, bump started twice after it kept dying on idle, so he was sat there revving it to keep it alive whilst we were staged, of course I was sitting there looking across at him thinking dont get it started, dont get it started but he did. So we was set off for out practice lap and his car died half way down, melted the wiring loom by all accounts, so that gave me a bye into the top 4 without even doing anything. To say I was absoloutley estatic about this was an understatement. I was then paired with Sam Holt and with me being the highest qualifer I was leading first. Bombing down the start straight I was trying to catch him off guard, 1st, 2nd, into 3rd, holding back on the throttle till around 4k and then mashing the eccelerator into the floor hoping to pull a gap, except I was thinking about him too much, onto the handbrake and initiated straight into a 180 and backwards into the kitty litter. 2nd run and he lead, over the hill we went both sideways, he pulled a bit of a gap down the hill and I started to think he'd got away from me, but then all of a suddent the car shot up behind him, I was the hand brake and foot brake into the last corner as we both scrubbed off speed, but he beat me.

So next it was me and Belinda Challis to determine 3rd and 4th. She lead first, all was fairly smooth until the last corner where she ran over the high red inside curb. Any dirt dropping, one wheel off track and the red curbs were an instant 0, so she gave me the first run 10-0. The second run I lead and I dirt dropped one wheel going into the last corner, but she made the same mistake again and caught the red curbing, so the second run was scored 0-0 with me winning overall to take 3rd place.

Im still so chuffed over this weekend, I loved Knockhill circuit anyway, but now I cant wait to return next year. This podium finish has been a long time coming for me but its been a massive confidence boost for me too, so Im praying I can continue this good form for the last round of the year next month at Sunderland.

But here's a few pics so far, the'll be loads filtering through over the coming week and I do finally have a go-pro car camera, got a few bits, but for the first time, figuring out how it works and just getting to used it on the car, I did get a lot of fail footage lol. I got a few good runs of the semi-pro qualify traingle oval, a lot of people's heads stearing into the camera swearing at it :D and a good 20mins worth of the car sat in the pits and we wandering around doing stuff lol, unfortunately totally forgetting to charge it inbetween days means that when I went to record my battles on the hill the 'bat' sign flashed at me and died, gutting. But as soon I as I get what I have edited I'll post it up because onboard video is so much more informative of whats going on, but fear not, I'll be armed with lots on my return from Round 5.

The infamous hill....looks pretty tame in these shots, but pretty blind when you're driving over it

Great work, fantastic that it's paying off so early :)

This ain't early man lol, this is actually my 3rd year in bdc, although year 1 ended with the killing of Nissan, year 2 saw the Supra miss all rounds except the last round due to problems with the build, so this is the 3rd year lol, not quite early but glad me and the car are finally coming together ;)

That's early to be hitting the podium surely? 3 years and you've worked your way to, almost, the top? I'd say that's good going ;)

There are three classes in BDC: semi-pro, pro & super-pro. I'm not 100% but I think if Ash finishes in the top four of semi-pro over a season he will then be promoted to pro.

Also during each event the winning driver in each class gets to compete in the class above only for that event if they choose to do so.

I was at Knockhill on Sunday and Ash was driving excellently, except for one escapade into the gravel. Thoroughly deserved his place on the podium.

This is a very hard form of motor-sport to get to this level at, especially as a privateer. Takes a lot of determination and perseverance, which going by his blogs, Ash seems to have in spades.

Best of luck for the remaining two rounds. :)
