Methods of removing Powder Coat?

I decided to remove the black paint off my wheels yesterday as i want them polished, i removed the black paint no problem with a little thinners. Unfornately, underneath was white powder coat :( What are my options for removing it? At the moment i'm thinking of getting them blasted but with something a little softer than grit blast so not to ruin the alloy. I'm also not sure what it would cost me price wise? Are there any other options? The only thing i can think of is Wet and Dry but it would take forever to get it all off and i cant get into all the nooks and crannies with that.

Thanks

How long does that stuff take do you know? Is it essential to immerse the wheels in it, or can you just keep applying it with a towel. I dont think i have anything big enough tank wise to put it in, and i would imagine it would need quite a bit of the solution to fully immerse the wheel, or even half the wheel if i was to do it one side at a time.

Not sure you would want to acid dip at home would you?

Remember you will also need the alkali neutraliser once the wheels are stripped and you will also have to dispose of all this stuff. Not something to go in drains!!!!

If you are looking to polish the wheels yourself find a local metal plating company who should have the acid baths.

If not get a wheel specialist to do the whole job.

The stuff Bignum has posted is environmentally friendly and re-usable so it shouldnt be much of a problem. I dont want to pay someone for something i can do myself, they dont need a refurb, just the powdercoat off and a good polish. I have a polishing kit myself, so i just want to get it down to bare metal ASAP so i can start polishing kit. THat solution takes 5 days to arrive, i want to get them done before pod :( I'll try find an alternative.

I just googled wheel stripping in east anglia heres a place that advertises wheel refurbing so they might just

chemically strip them for you.

http://www.kerridges.co.uk

What wheels do you have ?

Depending on what their going to blast them with chemical stripping with phosphoric acid will

be much quicker if your stripping a whole wheel, if their using a cabinet media blaster it'll take

quite a while to strip 1 wheel let alone 4

Dont get them shot blasted, sand blasting is about as coarse as i`d go on alloy.

Yeah, thats what i thought as well. I'm going to call around a few places on Monday and see what i can find. There's 2 places not far from me that do powder coating, i'm hoping they do removal also. I'll check out that Kerridges one aswell thanks Dnk :)

I've found a very good company near me that are going to chemically treat them for £15 a wheel, and blast them afterwards if it needs it included in the price. I popped down to speak to them today and i was very impressed with there work so i'm going ahead with it. Only downside is i wont get them back until Thursday/Friday which means theres almost no chance of me getting them polished up before Saturday, i'll try my best though :)
