Fuel economy...?

I should probably be severely chastised but I have been using normal 95 Ron unleaded in my N/A. Until Monday was only doing 35 miles a week.

Started new job and longer commute so used remains of 95 in my tank and got what I thought was OK economy.

Pulled into my local petrol station to fill up and could only get "Super" 97 ron. I haven't seen any improvement in performance but I have noticed that £20 nearly got me as far as £30 of normal unleaded.

Did I dream this? Does my car prefer the flavour or is there a valid reason why I got better economy?

It will be the nature of your new driving habits. Lets assume before your new job you used your car 3 times weekly totalling 35 miles. With that sort of use you'll be lucky to get 12 to the gallon, even NA.

Now you are getting the engine properly warmed up, and probably a lot less stop/start driving. This equates to far better mpg, which is probably only 20 mpg anyway.

95 is fine on a stock NA engine.
