OBDII Diagnostic Reader

The Autel maxi scan units are good. A mate of mine has one & when our Delphi (€3500) unit in the garage couldn't read a car i borrowed his & it read & erased the fault codes.

Oh & his was only about €50. I'm thinking of buying one for at home but i will look at a more expensive version to his that will do ABS, Air bags & hopefully reset brake callipers aswell.

I have always found make specific readers are the best. Best of the best is Bosch KTS, but VERY costly, the generic ones are pretty limited. I have only found one reader that has full functionality on all TT Supras, again a costly one. For basic stuff though some of the Ebay ones seem to do OK. I bought an el chapo one for the wife's Stagea, and it doesn't work.... :(

This is the one I've got. Not very impressive, but does the job... Reads engine codes and clears them. Had it for about a year and used it alot.

does that read the long and short term fuel trim? and other sensors?

If you have an Android Smarthphone there is an app called "Torque" that you can use to read OBDII via a OBDII Bluetooth connector ...thought I'd mention it.

Might give this a try. What adapter do you think will work with this? Any of the ones listed on that eBay link you showed?

The best one seems to be the PLX Kiwi Bluetooth connector but it is only suitable for 1996+ cars. It's not cheap (£80-100) compared to the other ones on ebay that are around £30, but it does appear to be more reliable - so a case of 'you get what you pay for' would appear to apply: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PLX-KiWi-Bluetooth-OBDII-Android-mobile-devices-/110658960938?pt=UK_Mobiles_Accessories_RL&hash=item19c3c9be2a

Note: Only the VVTI Supra's have OBDII, earlier models are OBDI (info: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?233488-Supra-and-OBD-II&highlight=obdII)

The one in my sig, Nissan Skyline 350GT, it uses a combination of CAN bus and K line for OBD2 communication.

Strange they never just made it standard OBD2.

Do these work if you have a standalone?

I would be surprised if they would as it is difficult to find one which connects to the stock Supra ECU. I could be wrong though.

I bought the following one for our Mercedes (OBD2 - 16 pin), delivered last week and does the job really well.
