Hi There,

I have searched the forum and read the model guide , I also phoned TdR of here to see if he had any idea of what model i have ended up with.

the basics are, I was at the Car auctions last night in Kinross.

And this was in the sale, With a stupidly low reserve on it from the John Martin motor Group in Edinburgh as a trade in.

The car is a 1998 Supra with 1 UK owner and 55k Genuine warrantied Miles, It came with 1 years mot and 5 Months tax.

It has cloth leather, air con, electric windows and folding mirrors.

It has some modifications being -

Blitz Front mount intercooler and hard pipe kit.

Blitz SUS Filter

Greddy Boost & water temp guages

Diffrent rear spoilers

front bumper has been changed and the back one is modified.

It also has a set of staggered 18 Inch alloy wheels

Stainess steel exhaust.

MOMO gearknob and steering wheel

It looks to have uprated brake calipers 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears.

It also has the pre facelift dash board but looks to have face lift front & rear lights..

The car has a diffrent chassis plate on it saying it was built by PK White LTD in 1998, The seat belt tags also say it was built in 1998.

I owned a supra before and it was a 1997 (P) Plate in a bronze/gold colour which i sold onto TdR on here, but that had the facelift dashboard aswell the facelift lights which makes me wonder if this car is a genuine 1998 model, Though all the documents say it was first manufactured in 1998.

It also came with the original registration plates from Queensland , Austrailia.

Basicly im wanting to know what model i have, and if anyone knows anything about the car, Any info would be greatly apreciated, As i intend to keep the car and maybe go down the route of a big single like my last car was .

Thanks.

Kenny.

Sorry mate, but this is not 98... First off it should have been VVTi, but if we assume it was a NA with TT transplant, still the passenger airbad is different... Can't see the instrument cluster, but it looks like pre-facelift? The seats are pre-facelift too... So this is really strange car... It might have been imported to UK 98, but I think this is 93-94-95 RZ maybe...

Hope you're changing the bodykit ;)

Hopefully you got a good deal on it.

Probibly the cheapest twin turbo manual one on the planet ?

Empror , I spoke to TdR and he seemed to think it was a cross over model that was mate.

Do you want me to take more photos of the inside for you ?

I plan on using the car for drag racing so the kit will be getting changed for sure.

I think it's too late to be a crossover model, they shoud have stopped in 97.

Any details from the chassis tag? If the VIN is removed the chassis number is still eteched on the bulkhead. If you PM me it, I should be able to get some details on the car..

Edit - from the later pics it has a facelift dash, not pre-facelift. Maybe you could confirm - do you have 4 or 5 dials in the instrument cluster?

Edit2: Just read this was bought from Australia, that might explain why it's a bit different... If you can get the chassis tag it should explain everything... I have a feeling it's going to start with an E instead of J.

The tag is an australian one, my guess now is that this is an import and has been changed maybe to get around import regs. My second guess is 1998 is the import date. Got this from the Australian motor vehicle regulations:

1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Certification of Low Production Passenger Cars (LPPC) has been developed to cater for new vehicles that are listed on the Register of Specialist and Enthusiast Vehicles, but are unable to demonstrate compliance with certain Australian Design Rules (ADRs).

1.2 Vehicles on the Register and which are manufactured by a Manufacturer whose total worldwide production does not exceed 500 units per annum, and there are no indications that production is likely to exceed that level, are eligible for LPPC certification.

1.3 Holders of an Approval for Low Production Passenger Cars will be authorised to fit up to 25 plates per annum.

1.4 Participation in the LPPC will be considered on a case by case basis and will be restricted to vehicle models having a high commercial value when compared to mainstream models in an equivalent market segment. Participation will also be restricted to vehicle models that the state and territory registration authorities have not refused to allow on public roads.

2.0 LOW PRODUCTION PASSENGER CAR

The following guidelines determine whether a make/model of a vehicle may be assessed as a LPPC and whether it may be eligible for LPPC certification.

2.1 Make/Model

2.1.1 The make/ model must meet the guidelines for eligibility under Regulation 24 of the Motor Vehicle Standards Regulations 1989, also detailed in Circular 0-2-12.

2.1.2 Where the make/model is a Replica of another model, the

Administrator will deem the models to be the same model for eligibility purposes.

Obviously that's a non-standard VIN, but the chasiss number (well part of it anyway - JZA80-0001036) is not possible. The production models started at 0001063

Can you get the number from the bulkhead?

What about checking the V5 or MOT test certificate?

I bought the car from the the car auctions, So there is a indemnity on anything suspicious though all the paperwork was in place and in order.

I never collected the Logbook or MOT as i purchused it along with 11 other cars which are being transported to me tomorrow with the V5 and mot, though i did check them over when i was at the auction and it was all fine.

Chris why would i let the DVLA near it :S . I also own a mot station in glasgow so i will be taking care of all the maintence and MOT issues on it.

It just seems like a strange model to me.

I will rarely be using it on the road, It will just be a small project for me and my friend to build up.

Yes, it's a facelift, but not 98 (Passenger airbag is different, also the turn-light switches are different from 98), so it's 96/97... still seats are pre-facelift! The chassis also looks pre-facelift (there are no rear sidemarkers?! unless they have been filled and painted over). The carpet is grey... wasn't it supposed to be black on a facelift unless it has a tan leather interior or something? This is heck of a strange car! This still might be a pre-facelift car with a facelift dash panels, cluster and airbag cover...

If it's a fresh import the HPI, MOT and V5 won't tell you anything you don't already know.

It may be worth posting on the Australian supra forum to see if they can advise why the chassis tag might have been changed. I have an account there so can post for you if needed.

However - Bingo with the dash & engine pics :)

This was an NA originally ;)

Dude also makes a good point above
