Blooming potholes

Tonight i had dropped off a friend from work coming down the next road a long his cars parked both sides so was in the middle of the road going about 25-30. the next thing a new bang hit a massive pothole, it was big enough to disconnect the battery and put out the tracking (hopefully thats all its done) but the worrying this is when i connected the battery again the engine wouldn't idle is does now but it seems to struggle. had a look round the engine and underneath nothing looks damaged and there are no strange noises. would the impact of the pothole just of upset the engine abit for it not to idle it does now but i dont want to be causing any damage to it.

cheers matt

That must have been one hell of a pothole! If it's a TT the ECU can take a little while to re-learn after a reset (battery disconnect will do this), if there's no other obvious sign of damage then take it for a careful drive, it should sort itself out. The NA's don't seem to be so affected.

I would go back asap and get a photo of it (use something next to it so you gauge its true size), write to your local highways agency and get them to pay for the repairs !! That's what I would do, its disgusting the state of the roads today.

Check the plastic intercooler pipe for cracks etc.
