PPl,

So I have about a year left with my Supra in Japan, after that it will

be exported to South Africa, along with me..lol.

SO I was thinking of what spare parts i should take back to SA, as well

as repair items that I should do in Japan while spares & expertise are

available.

By the time I would have left I would have completed the ffg.(some are

done already)

- Apexi intake

- Full BPU (Decat & RR/Spark plugs (incl coil pack connectors)/BCC/EBC/Fuel Pump & filter)

- TRD single plate clutch/OEM flywheel and engine mounts incl all seals etc that can be replaced whilst doing this.

- SS Brake Hoses & Dot 4 fluid incl inspection of brake lines and replacement

- Suspension bolts tighten

- FMIC

- All Fluids changed

- Timing Belt (already changed, but will reinspect for peace of mind)

- AFR gauge

- AEM water Meth

- O2 Sensor replacement

Optional items i am considering based on cost:

- Oil cooler & filter relocation

- TRD LSD

- Coilover kit

- Headlamps (if a refurbish does not cut it)

- Oil temp and fuel pressure gauge.

- RLTC

So the spare parts I am considering as follows:

- Brake pads

- Oil Filters

- Spark plugs

- P/S fluid, V160 gear oil/ TRD LSD oil (if fitted)

- Fuel Filter

- Clutch plate

- Full Gasket kit. ( It should have all the items for VSS replacment)

- Brake O/H kit.

- Crank pulley (did the tippex test, seems ok for now)

Is there any other parts that can be recommended to take back? I am talking from a mechanical/electronic point of view, not body panels, glass etc..

I have read the guides on here and picked up as much as I can.

From members experience, is there any other maintainence items I should

consider before exporting?

Thanks in advance.

If i were travelling that far it get me a off roader shell to take with me, chassis and body parts there, you can always ship the aftermarket bits in...

Import laws are an issue with things like that.. Easier to take a running car... Maybe I can get a poor condition RZ to strip for parts..Might be an idea..

Some suggestions

  • Cam cover breather hoses.
  • Before you go I'd get all the suspension arms, joints, bushes, etc. checked for wear, replace with new OEM parts where necessary. I'd also get a full geometry/alignment check done.
  • Wheel bearings - they're not cheap but they do wear, especially if you have larger than stock wheels fitted.
  • Brake discs - they're very heavy though.
  • Belt tensioners - if not already replaced.
  • Oil pump - a worn pump can cause the front crank seal to go.
  • Radiator - check condition, the end tanks can crack and the connection to the hoses break.
  • Rad pipes.
  • Rad cap.
  • Thermostat.

Thanks Nic..

Radiator and cap has been changed already..

Cam cover breather hoses I will change with the vss.

Will do on the suspension and bearings, will get the car checked out.

Brake discs, I have new Dixcels...

Belt tensioners should be changed, will check..

Oil pump is a good idea..

If there's a real issue with parts, and import taxes are not crippling, I'd be thinking of taking a scrap car as well, for spares.

Well we do get tons of import cars coming in from Japan thru our Durban port, these go up to Africa, I need to check if I can buy one of these as scrap in the case of needing parts..We are not able to buy them and register them legally.

Import taxes are terrible in SA, so I need to work out the best method..

Engines we get plenty of Jap imports, so if the need be I can grab one of those..Prices are cheap, the occasional gearbox pops up as well..

If you're keeping the car a long ol' time any rubber seals like door/windscreen seals that will be perishable?

Tailgate struts?

Electric ariel goes eventually

Front main seal?

Rear crank seal

Relay kit? Not that I've known many to go.

When you leave for SA are you going to video yourself destroying that Prius?

The window seals on my car are in good nick, but I suppose a few spare wont hurt.

Crank seals will be replaced...

Tailgate struts are working fine, but will check the price..If the aerial goes, will just go aftermarket..

As for the Prius, I hated it at first, but with the traffic in Japan, go to love 1000kms per tank...It makes sense here, and the new generation is pretty smart..
