My Maxxis BDC Round 1 Weekend.........

Well, first of I thought I had better show you all how the car turned out. I know I posted pictures after me and Marcus from 1:Eleven customs resprayed it, but the stickers didnt go on until very late in the week and after I had a rear tyre on the truck blow, plus late delivery on the 4 brand new tyres for the Supra, last week just turned into a 24/7 mission.

I ended up spending near on £800 just on tyres over 2 days, its become very apparant that I need to source a tyre sponsor. Buying 19" tyres personally just isnt a financially viable option at £560 for the 4. Despite the initial outlay already done, I dont suspect I would use anymore then 3 sets of rears so if anyone has anyone in mind then feel free to mention to away ;)

So, lets have a look at how the car turned out :D

Before I forget just gotta shout out thanks to H7ero for rolling my rear arches for me ;)

So the car was cosmetically ready and Im really pleased with how it turned out.

So the car was still waiting to get to AFR to be re-mapped onto coil packs, unfortunately all the guys were really under the hammer to get Johns car built and mapped, I know from speaking with Simon at Round 1 he was doing 12 hour days just on Johns car to try and get it completed in time, this unfortunately left Matt in a position whereby he could only offer to map my car on Wednesday, possibly Thursday. I mulled this over the weekend before and decided against mapping her then. If there were to be any probems on the dyno, or with mapping it would probably be too late in the day to sort anything out which would result in me missing round 1. So I decided to take the car to round 1 as she was, not ideal, but she's solid and reliable and running, the only downside being that she is still only mapped to 6k.

And Im glad I didnt try to squeeze in mapping, I had all week off work to finish the car and fettle with bits but it still came to the point where by on Thursday evening when ideally I should have been at Donny already, I was still at home getting everything packed up, but we finally set off from Basingstoke around 20:00 Thursday evening.

I got to Donny around midnight and still needed to re-fit all my boost pipes, cut down all 10 over-sized jubilee clips that was the only size I was able to find in that quantity that I needed and raise all the shocks slightly to allow for the brand new rubber to have a bit more clearance as all 4 wheels we now rubbing after putting new rubber on.

So after finally getting to sleep around 01:00, I set my alarm and was the first person out there at 04:30, to unload the car off the truck, fit all my boost pipes and raise suspension eventually completing this just in time for the morning briefing at 07:00.

So onto practice, which now days is turning out to be even shorter with the amount of cars now in each class. I only got 2 runs in the first practice session and another 2 runs on the 2nd practice session, which I feel hurts even more as a semi, I need to desperately do well this year and claw my way up out of semi's as I was watching the pro cars and they had no queue at all and just kept going round and round.

Excuse the poor quality, it was recorded on a Iphone unfortunately, I left my in car camera on the sideboard at home :(

But this was my pratice run before my judged runs....

bHQo47MzjB0

This was my first judged lap......

XR_xaU9CNPE

This was my second judged lap and highest scoring run I believe.....

GJDtMVbG3NE

And this was my third run and what felt like my worst run, running very wide past the clips on this run.....

Y7VKjcM7Ww8

This is some video of me inside the car.....

And this is some flukey video caught by my works mate girlfriend. I took him out for a spin, nearly literally lol. As I came past the Maxxis truck at the front I spotted red flags being waved, obviously this means stop the car where ever you are, so I pulled out of the drift and onto the brakes. I remember seeing a red thing in the passenger wing mirror shoot past my rear end. When we got into the pits Sam got out of his car quite annoyed and asking what the hell I was doing ? I was obiding thred flag rule, something he admitted he never even saw, so I've been winding him up all weekend on how he nearly wrote off the read end of my car. And I was only telling my body guy after I had completed qualification how nice it will be to return home and have no repairs to complete as I had managed to not smash anything on the car, until this nealy happened....

So the results !

As I said, I went to this round without the car being properly mapped again, so mechanically the car is still the same as over the winter, but despite this I managed to qualify 11th. Now even though Im really heading for the top 10 to 8 finish's, for the first weekend and with a car that still isnt quite right, Im really very pleased to be starting the year with points. As long as I can keep taking points from each of the 5 rounds I reckon I can finish in the top 8-10 overall.

Im not sure how many points I get for 11th, but obviously after one round Im 11th in the drivers Championship which is a great start to the year ;)

Just hope I can keep it going :D

Ash, if you want send me the videos and I can host them for you... I'll even do the links for you ;)

I think Im gonna create a Youtube channel like Gav mentioned, it'll be easier in the long run, but thanks though sweet cheeks ;)

The car looks a 100 times better now Ash, nice work.

Doesnt she Jamie, not a bad outcome for something me and my mate gunned over in a weekend ;)

do you pay retail on the tyres ? what sizes do you use ?

i wouldnt be able to sponsor you but might be able to save you a few quid

I had to pay retail for this first set mate. The fronts are Falken 452's 235/35/19 and the rears are Khumo 245/40/19, all in these cost me £560. I went for the Khumo's because my mate said they were really smokey, except they werent really, they took ages before they started to smoke heavily.

Going forward, Im just gonna source the cheapest rears in that size, but if there is anyway you can help out mate, I would always be very grateful mate ;)

The car looks awesome Ash! Really want to see the vids, whats your full name and i'll add you on fb...

Ashley Wand Willis on FB mate ;)

Well done Ash, I would just like everyone to know that Simon (who spanners for Mark Luney, EDC champion) actually rates Ash quite highly, in his words 'that boy has talent'. He reckons with a decent car Ash could do really well. Matt is going to get the car on coil packs and remapp it but he is obviously going to need a tyre fund, can we not do something as a club to support the 'Sliding Twig' !!!!! AFR will also chuck a few ££££ in for tyres if the club pulls together and organises something to help.

Looking good Ash, best of luck for the year ahead

Thanks man ;)

yep thats right buddy, p&p is normally about £7 per pair and i might have another w58 soon so if you still need a speed sensor ill take the one out of my old box if i can get the other one.

That would be useful mate, I still not got no speedo, haven't a clue on my speeds lol, also I know someones that after a W58 if your looking to sell it ;)

Kind words John, thanks :D But I do need to find a tyre sponsor now, the club helps massively already with their sponsorship, which helps with the cost of funding this throughout the year. I reckon I could manage on 3-5 sets of rears for the year, which really ain't a lot. Look at the SATS Supra, 22 sets of rears they used that weekend alone. You times that over 5 rounds, I'm managing everything on a shoe string ;)

But Si is a good egg man, he always takes time out to help and chat and it's good having him around, he sorted an issue I had within 5mins.

Nice one Ash, the car looks great with it's new paint job, those are some expensive wheels to go drifting in though :D

It may not be that well known, but the club itself is already sponsoring Ash (hence the club stickers). If there is a something else that can be arranged between members we're happy to help make that happen :)

The're some old wheels I dug out the garage lol :D Truth is I need a 19" wheel to fit the car, anything else I like is more then what those wheels are probably worth, with dish and good off set, these are spaced a far bit, but nothing else I can do, so just better hope I don't bend one :D

As already said, all my sponsorship goes a long way to keeping the car going through out the year, drifting is so abusive on cars, it's a constant, repair, patch up and tape together :D

And the members of this forum have already helped me out in different ways :)

id like to say ill sponsor for they tyres but i cant afford tyres for my own track car :(

Are you running 19's though lol, even I had trouble spending over 500 on 4 brand new tyres and then without them seeing a mile or even a meter to start spinning the rears like I'm part worns lol
