Semi Slick Tyre Size

Hi guys..

I have come across a set of RE11-S 255/40/17..

The tyre is suited for circuit racing, I will probably run a few a drags with it as well.

I intend to mount them onto the stock wheels, will also get a set of 235/45/17..

Is it a good choice of size or should I get something bigger? Will the stretch fit of the stock tyre size be good enough on the track?

Any recommendation for a tyre that can accomadate both forms of racing, Jamie?

I am trying to avoid having to purchase full out drag radials and circuit tyres..

Depends how serious you want to get, R888 will do both jobs but wont excel at either.

Well track racing will be less frequent, I would think with drags being more popular in SA, I would be into those more...But not full out, cars usage will be street more than anything...

R888 in 275/40/17 and 245/40/17 will cost me about 900GBP...

R888's are a stupid price. If you're mainly going to be dragging then get some street drag radials for the rear and some decent tyres for the front.

Rear street drag radials such as BF Goodrich T/A Drag's, Mickey Thompson ET Streets (if you have right sized wheels), Nitto 555

Front tyres I would use something good but not expensive like Vredstein Ultrac Sessanta, Toyo T1-R etc

The good thing about the BFG's is that you can get them in bigger wheel sizes but they aren't all out drag like the MT's

Otherwise if you want matching tyres then you'll have to stick to something along the lines of the R888 or alternatives like Dunlop Direzza's, Yokohama Semi Slicks (forget the exact name but it's A....)

So far can only get the Toyo R888, will look for the Yoko and Dunlop and compare prices..
