To make that unrecognisable would defeat the object of stealing it? Unless the purpose is for it to go far, far abroad, or even worse - a devious competitor reason.. I think he is just trying to help a friend out not realising that there is already a thread started. It is also in the same category so not really making any impact on anything. I'd recommend they get any serial numbers they might have up online. Things like ECUs will be easiest to find, if they've got original packaging. Guys, just watch what you buy.
