Disappointment ends in NAMING AND SHAMING!!

Well chaps, its 3 years on since ive had my respray, the paint originally failed 6 months on with blistering and had to go back to Knight Racer for the areas of bubbling to be resprayed, it was at this point that alarm bells in my head started to ring, how long will this paint last? but i received the car back and the areas were ok now so i put it down to mistakes happen and moved on.

However now with a trained eye (i do tons of spray work now myself), the match is terrible and no blending has been done on the car what so ever to blend the areas that were repainted.

Over the last year or so the paints been degrading slowly, but i held off untill now for naming and shaming, as big chunks of clear coat and giant blisters have decided to form and fall off the lower front of the bumper.

3 Years on im now at the point when at a minimum ill have to respray the front from bare plastic, due to the paint fail, and as ive noticed tiny blisters on the wing forming i would estimate the rest wont be far behind in failing......

In this time i have done no more than 8k miles, so unless my cars been through a sand blaster i cannot see how simple road damage can have caused this.

Anyway the pics speak a 1000's words, and they're attached. As i say, this is Knight Racer respray, and im aware that in 3 years i have little or no come back, but my 2.3k was not well spent!

Looks like moisture under the paint, you'll never get rid of that.

Is it really that difficult to get a good spay job done these days. I have recently had one of my cars back to someone local as the job was not finished off properly.

Looks nasty, Have you spoke to knight racer and asked if they will fix it? is it just the front bumper effected?

At the moment yep its just the front, and a patch where the rear washer jet mounts looks very very iffy to me. I havent spoken to them about it, i went 120 miles each way to go to them as they seemed to have a good rep on this forum, i dont expect to get anything back from them on it, a long time has pasted, ill do the respray of the front myself now.

Heres the f*cking killler, i went to a automotive paint supplier (i go weekly, they do me superb matches normally on the little bits i do), showed him the car, its ment to be toyota gun metal (6N0 i believe)..........well you guess it, its not.......its a mishmash of god knows what. So matching it will be very tricky........

I like the colour dont get me wrong, so i just assumed it was right.........but it isnt a toyota colour.

I'm only 8 miles away from that place.. want me to go in and moan to them about it?

Although I didn't think it was Knight Racer that did the respray. It's the company next door to them that do it?

I think your right on that one, im pretty sure, but dont quote me.....they out source the work.....thus, i believe they have changed bodyshops a few times in the last few years but dont quote me on that.

Bit harsh to do the name and shame thing if you have not given them a chance to fix the bumper imo.

I agree jamie, in the heat of moment after ive come in after cleaning it, i let go a little. The paint did fail earlier, and really i should of insisted on the lot being redone, but i trusted that it was isolated. I put my car into the bodyshop in the first place because the body work was a bit patchy, it had had some touch ups before as you would expect for an older car, its now worse than it was after only 3 years on and still looks as patchy.

I went to the company that is right next door to Knight Racer and spoke to the guy about getting some body work done as someone drove into the side of me. He was very helpful. He said about blending it all through to the front of the car. Took the paint code to make sure it was correct.

Unfortunately I didn't get my car done there. They seem to get quite a lot of people getting work done.

that company is called AD panelcraft. No idea if it is the same one you had it done at.

looks nasty but only the front bumper, your problem is getting the colour code if there was one and also getting them to do the job again which after the years is going to be impossible.

if its a custom colour and they never recorded the mix then its baaaaadddddd news and a repaint is the only option

Agreed, the guy i go to for my paints i quote said "Ahh yeh bodyshops do it all the time, throw in whatever sh*t they have to bulk up the paint". I guess this explains why even when they did the repair respray (on mainly the drivers side rear 1/4) the match was so off, as they didnt know what it was to start with.

i should have moaned then and there about the match, so i have myself to blame on that one, but i didnt know what to look for, i loved the car and wanted it back.

I'd have been upset if my respray looked like that after 3 years also mate...hope you get it sorted!

Thanks mate, once i get to my new house and my spray booth, ill be doing a full respray on the car myself in HOK electric green........least ive only got myself to blame then if the paint fails lol.

Dont think KR trade on here anymore, cant see them in the traders section.

It seems to be really difficult. Every time i've had paintwork done around here, i've had problems. I've only ever used places that come recommended, but it still seems to go wrong for me :( Been looking at having mine done recently, but i've either walked away or not had a reply from my enquiries :( One place wanted £5k to spray my Supra!

Is it too much to expect, that when you're shelling out over £2k for a new paintjob, that the finish will be excellent, and it will last along time?

That's terrible, must be so frustrating spending all that money for it to mess up like that :( I'm due to get a front bumper and some oem skirts and spats put on at Knight Racer, but now I'm worried my car will not be done properly either. Arrrghhh what to do?! :( Let us know how you get on...
