CP pistons

ACL main and rod bearings

ARP head studs and connecting rod bolts.

If you are going to add more rpm to the engine you may want to upgrade valves, v seats, and springs.

that’s what people normally use, be aware that some members had problems with CP pistons (Jamie P may say something about that).

Thanks mate i having been looking at them, I have heard Mahle pistons are good anyone no how good, are they better than CP? Yes the cylinder head will be done also, is it cheaper/easyer to go and get one of whifbitz ready build heads and what stage head should i go for?

This would be my choice, its what I currently run:

 

Bottom end:

Mahle pistons

Carillo H beam rods

ARP head and main studs

Toyota oil pump

ACL race bearings (if you can get hold of any)

Toyota head gasket

Titan Motorsports timing belt tensioner bracket

Gates Racing cambelt

 

Head components:

Supertech 1mm oversize valves

Supertech springs, caps, locators

My own 280 9.9mm lift cams, proven to give more bhp/torque than the HKS 280

Vernier cam gears, I do my own so I'm going to recommend my ones of course

 

Think thats about it!

My list is the same as Paul's. Can't comment on head build.. except that I would probably go for an MVP or Headgames unit from the US.

The billet mains and studs and line boring will add over £1k to the build and prob not absolutly needed for 800hp, nice to have though.Carrillos are nice but over twice the price as Brian Crower rods that are used in many 1500 hp cars in the states, I have a set of Carrillos but used the BC's.If you are going Billet mains then you would really want to go for the Exotic ARP studs at around $600. The Cosworth pistons will be great I will be using them in a build soon and can supply those cheaper than anywhere else if Im building the engine, but once again Ive used CP in my stroker kit. Why don't you look for a built engine and head you can refresh that way you can sell your complete engine for decent money to recoup some costs. For example I would sell the built and refreshed bottom end and the big valve head for around £3800 as I don't need it as a spare for the race car as we have 2 3.4's, that means whoever buys it can sell their complete engine for £12-1500, £2600 for a built 1000hp spec engine is damn cheap I think.

is there a difference between "H" beam and "I" beam or is it two ways to describe the same type??

 

One looks like an H the other an I !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes a difference in price and strength and i have always found the I beams to be heavier. For serious power I would say stick with Crower or Carrillo, personally I think the Carrillos are way overpriced and I use Crowers, Im putting my race engine together over the weekend and Im sticking with the BC rods even though I have a set of Carrillos I can use. The stock rods are great if you change the rod bolts, I would take the stock rods over the Pauters and eagles.

how much roughly does it cost to port/knife edge the head??

JE pistons and rings

Boostlogic crank pulley

New water pump

New oil pump

Full engine gasket set

 

Block was honed as well.

All new bearings fitted and platigauged.

i'm building a 800hp engine on the side! ( the engine i have is 612hp so just building one on the side for the jump) I purchased carrillo "I" beam rods for my build. they should be fine right?? also Mr Chris Wilson said that for that power level i should be trying to source a billet crank! i have billet main caps only bearings and pistons left on the bottom to get! Also thought that cosworth where only just developing there pistons (in a drift car i think) so are they try'd and tested at these power levels??
