try this thread, lots of info on models. U cant find many UK cars because they were only made for 3 years in England, 93-96. Imports insurance can vary a lot depending on age and which company, my friend, who is 22, just bought his first import supra and it cost him £850 with elephant with 3 years ncb.

Blimey, I think that particular thread is more likely to confuse than clarify! (particularly with me babbling on about the ultra-rare paddle shift Supra (aka the Tiptronic buttons)!!)

There's info on UK versus J spec (J spec = import) cars (and autos v manuals, and facelift changes too), in the FAQ forum that's linked via my signature below.

A basic overview:

3.0 litre normally aspirated ('NA') auto or manual (J spec only)

3.0 litre twin turbo ('TT') auto or manual (J spec or UK model)

The J spec TT comes in several different trim versions. The UK version comes in one trim version only (which is slightly higher than the highest J spec version)

You've also got Aerotops as well (lift out roof panel for open top driving), that comes in NA and TT versions, but the TT version is rare and difficult to find. These are J spec only.

Iam 22 with 3 years NCB tryed the supra on elephant got about the same quote but that was on a u.k spec :( just hope an import isnt much more but i would prefer the u.k spec as its got some tasty goodies  damn cheap thought couldnt believe my eyes.

You will find plenty of UK specs.. mainly autos. You will just need to keep an eye on autotrader for a couple of months, set targets for what you want: ie, mileage, colour, mods etc, and then wait :) In the end its worth waiting rather than ending up for something you didnt really want imho.

The auto is a great box. You''ll hear so many good comments about it here. You need to go test drive them both to really make up your mind. The UK manuals are very limited in numbers, I think theres a Auto 8:1 Manual ratio (for UK specs), so if you finda manual pop up it'll be a rare occurance. There have been some about, some cheap too. You can be lucky and find some bargains for the cash you have to spend.

£8-10k usually gets you an older model TT, both j-spec and UK's have been sold for that. The better condition/newer models usually fetch £12-15k, both Uk and Jap. Like I said though, there are bargains aplenty, just keep your eye out.

Expect more then! I'm 24 with 7 y NCB and I said mine was garaged at night, stil pay over a grand on my J spec TT6. (As a rule of thumb, I would say double the quote for the UK and that's gonna be close to the J-Spec Insurance)

 thats expensive.

think its best if i stick to a u.k spec then ;) so is the auto just the usual semi-auto or is it a fancy triptronic piece,i dont mind auto but i dont really think it has a place in sports cars as you cant control the clutch :( o and i read that thread on the models but it doesnt say which ones for the u.k market only unless i missed it :stupid:

UK models: UK Auto TT and UK Manual TT.

Anything RZ/GZ/SZ (non turbo) is an import.

Dont dismiss the auto, I see your point but I still think for your average driving experience you'd have equally as much fun with one. Go for a ride in one, or test drive one before you decide on wanting a manual for definite.. cos if you do, you may have to wait a while. :)

so roughly how many manual u.k specs were made?

Any idea of how i could get round to having test drive never done so before as ive always been the passenger.

Iam in no rush as i like to get to know abit about the cars and get a feel for the market spent the last 14 months looking for a low milleage clean Escort Cosworth  which is near impossible and ive fallen in luv with the supra now i dont know what i was thinking in the first place:rolleyes: but i dont mind waiting aslong as its not years :)

Thx again very helpfull stuff :nana:

There were somewhere between 100-150 UK 6 speeds made (we believe). Now consider over time a fair few of those have been written off, there arnt that many floating about.

No worries about the advice.. I am certainly not 'the bible' for Supra info, just trying to help :)

GZ is most cloesly spec'd, but I think you'll find it hard to find a manaul GZ, as most Jap manuals were RZ'd.

You will find UK6's come up for sale, you gotta be patient if you really want one. and keep your eyes peeled :) Ones up for sale right now, but thats £14k. (see for sale section)
